Hello all. I read something today about converters that completely thru me for a loop. If I remember correctly, it said that you want to choose a stall speed that is lower than your cruise rpm. I don't understand what this means. Most people I would think, have a 70mph cruise rpm between 1800 and 2500. If this is true, how does anyone buy a stall converter that is 2800-4500 rpms??? I'm so confused. I bracket race my newer bolt on mustang with 4.09 gears with stock stall and was looking to get a circle d 4c

If I remember correctly, it said that you want to choose a stall speed that is lower than your cruise rpm.
it should be a few hundred RPM below peak TORQUE. So if yer peak is at 5000 rpm, you need a 4500 rpm stall.

Oh, did I read this completely wrong Wildhorse. My peak torque is probably 4500

Also, our converters are usually “lock up” style. So they aren’t stalling/slipping after 1st gear like older style non “lock up” units.

So you could have “4500rpm” targeted stall, but it’s only going be stalling in first gear. Still would be locked up during cruising and driving like stock using direct power transfer to the gearing.
