Cheap Diseal heater review.

I'm sure people here that have a shop or garage that live in a climate where you need some heat in the winter time have probably heard about the cheap Chinese diesel heaters on Amazon.

They've been hyped constantly. After cutting through the YouTube garbage and paid reviews. I decided it's $100 bucks if it's crap I'll just return it.

Here is mine

For reference I'm heating an 835 ft² garage with 9 and 1/2 ft ceilings that are insulated. The walls are sheetrocked but not insulated 2 garages doors front and back are not.

Since I've been using it the temperatures have been hovering in the low 30s for a high and low 20s for the low.

Impression: I'm actually very impressed Most of the YouTube hype was actually spot on shockingly. With it running on high it kept the garage at a steady 60° or higher depending on the outside temperature.

Fuel efficiency: The manufacturer claims of running 22 hours or more on 1 gallon of diesel are accurate if run at level two. Running it at level 6, 1 gallon of diesel lasts roughly 13 hours.

Fuel type: manufacturer claimed that these heaters can burn used motor oil, cooking oil ect. I tested this first by mixing half diesel half used motor oil. This system worked just fine. Switching to 75% motor oil 25% diesel I could tell the system wasn't running as efficient but it was still very effective. I did not test 100% motor oil.

Noise: My unit is very quiet when compared to hotdog/jet engine propane heaters.

Placement: I initially planned on placing it outside and piping the heater in. But because I was going to be messing with it and wasn't sure about it at first I wasn't going to drill a 3-in hole through my wall yet.

Exhaust: mounting it inside does result in the problem of exhaust heat. It gets pretty damn hot! So I used a through-the-hull adapter and a 2x4 and an excessive amount of aluminum tape to temporarily exhaust it through the window. I bought the extended exhaust tube for two reasons. One give the exhaust more time to cool before it comes in contact with anything. 2 it makes placement easier. Many people have been using old cast radiators and pipe the exhaust into them and then outside. This also reduces the exit temperature and reclaims a lot of heat making the system more efficient.

Safety: It's combustion! all the typical rules risks and safety apply. Carbon monoxide has not been an issue. My carbon monoxide alarm shows no parts per million. My handheld detector shows a slight amount by the exhaust but registers nothing in the general space.

Compared to some propane solutions this is a benefit. As with hot dawg heaters you should have a window cracked/open to avoid carbon monoxide build up. This also doesn't create the humidity that propane heaters can.

I was comparing its effectiveness and ease of use to my ceiling propane heater.

Obviously the propane heater will bring the garage up to 70-80° very quickly. The Diseal heater takes much longer. The irritating part is im tired of lugging a 100 lb propane tank around. And propane delivery services irritate the s*** out of me. Going to the store and getting 5 gallons of diesel that'll last me a week if I run it 24/7 Easy.(I won't run 24/7)

I'll probably get a second Diseal heater just so I can heat the area faster. I don't like to keep heaters on when I'm not around because of fire risk but sometimes I need things to be warm quickly because I also have a gym in my garage.

this might be of interest to noone but assuming a lot of you are garage people like me you might find it useful. I'm no expert but if you have any questions feel free to ask I'll try and answer them as best as I can.

A friend uses one of these in his small shop and it works well. My problem is that I need to heat 1600 sq ft with 12 foot ceilings. But, since it is below grade, it stays in the 55-60 deg range during the winter. One of these may work to get the temp up to 65ish which would work for me.
