Changing Order Options

I ordered my Mach 1 on 3/16 with the 6 speed. I called my dealer today to see if he could change the order to the automatic. Called back and said it couldn't be amended. Hearing 12 week delivery dates I wouldn't think it would be an issue. He said he was calling someone about it but no word back yet. Does this sound right?

I heard that transmission and engine are the only options you cannot change pretty much ever since the order is placed. Everything else is modifiable, at least in theory, almost until the point when the car enters production line.
