I just bought my 2017 Mustang GT Convertible 6-speed manual and have recently noticed when I put drinks in the cup-holders they warm up within about 10 min (yes with top up) after some investigation I noticed that there was a significant increase in heat around the shifter that seems to greatly warm the cup holder (especially the front one).

This is my first RWD car and I understand there may be some elements of the transmission under the shifter that could warm it. Just want to know if this is normal for our Mustangs or if I should bring it in for service.

No responses mean this is not common?

This is normal.

I took my center console out (quite easy to do) and lined the entire underside in heat-reflective foil to reject heat back towards the trans tunnel. This helped quite a bit.

I might do this. Were you able to find reasonably priced foil?

Thanks, I had that feeling. As the other posted asked do you have a recommendation on reasonably priced foil?

Take a look at Pegasus foil. You'll need about 2'x1' to do the job; it'll run you about $35 or so.

I've tried the cheap stuff on eBay and it works okay, but not great. If you're really price-sensitive then it's a decent way to go but it's less effective than a very good product.

Thanks I just don't like to overpay, $35 is reasonable if it helps the issue.
