This seemed to work out pretty good. I've been doing some sound meter testing during my hour commutes to work with a cell phone app over the last 2 weeks and i've gone down nearly 10 decibels removing that friggen microphone. First thing my girl said lastnight as we were going out to eat was "Did you get another exhaust on this car it's so quite" so i figure that's a good sign. I went from a 81-83 decibel average to down near 70 in the interior with the device mounted now. Now to see what what a full sound deadening interior treatment will do!

I hear a trunk full of dynamat isn't really worth it from my installer.

Yea, Dynamat is garbage. I'm going to go with CLD (Constraint layer damper) tiles for vibration, and a 2nd layer of CCF (Closed cell foam) and then a final layer of Barium Loaded Vinyl. i'm even looking at buying the kit to do the hood as well. i'm going big with this.

Also the company i'm going with is called Secondskinaudio.com Although i might use the CLD tiles from Noisco instead and go with 80m instead, not sure yet.

Thanks for the results! Funny enough, I also downloaded the decibel app but hadn't gotten the chance to try it. From your test results, sounds like you get around 12-13 decibel less noise inside the cabin with the mic disconnected (which in my opinion is great).

I had a full exhaust and sold it because to loud and vibrations especially at 2000 rpm. I'm back to the stock exhaust and saw this. So last night I cut the black wire at the mic and connected 2 long wires to a button in between the cut black wire so I can turn the Mic on and off. With the stock quiet exhaust i hear zero difference at all. I wish I would have tried this with the full exhaust before I sold it.

What kind of exhaust? I had a buddy that had some bad vibrations in his EB and come to find out he didn't have a few of the clamps secured and they came loose so it was touching the body under load cause vibrations.

It was a magnaflow street. At first with a catted downpipe it was unbelievable loud at about 2000 -2500 rpm. Fine cruising and sounded great full on. I then went to the stock downpipe and got much better but it was still pretty much at the same RPM. I did have a rattle off the transmission at one time too that I addressed. I also messed around with a GT exhaust with a y pipe added to get rid of the resonator. That is a pretty nice setup. Still just a little resonance at those same RPM. I might try that setup again with the mic unplugged.

Can anyone supply a short video on how to remove the headliner and unplug the mic please?

I can't show you with a vid but i can tell you, it's REALLY easy. Hell i did it from the front seat, now mind you I cut mine if i was in the back seat it would have been fine. The headliner in that area is held up with a magnet.

2 questions: Where do you pull down the headliner? middle, driver's side, etc. and is this the "microphone" for the exhaust sound that is piped through the stereo system that other threads talk about?

The general consensus is "Yes" this is the microphone with that intention. I pulled mine down from the center, probably 4-5" it will look like it creased a little bit but i just grabbed it, yanked it out and cut it so no issues and it popped right back into place via the magnet kinda looks like a little button on the headliner.

So I finally got around to getting a catback to hook up to my UPR Downpipe and I've got to say, when I first started it up I thought,

"Woah"

This is my first car with anything other than a stock exhaust and when I first began to drive away I was thinking that it was so loud, I felt like the cabin of my car was going to vibrate and resonate itself apart. After a couple of hours I was hating it a little bit. Then I remembered something I heard about pulling down the headliner from the back window and unplugging a small microphone.

The difference is phenomenal. Now my exhaust sounds like it's behind the vehicle where I should be instead of reverberating through the entire car like I was driving a civic with solid motor mounts and a fart cannon. So I just want everyone to know, when you get a exhaust on your Ecoboost please disconnect the mic from the headliner and see how you like it. A friend of mine who's otherwise stock with the Race did it and was amazing as well, also said his sound system and bass was much clearer!
Any video of your exhaust, I'd like to hear your set-up.

My car is the black one that revs second, catless with MBRP

Nice man. Just ordered my catless downpipe and gonna run it with the mbrp race too. Can't wait to see how loud it gets. I took off the mic today and didn't notice much so far
