Did my first 5k mile oil change yesterday.
I put a Mishimoto catch can on at 1k and pulled out the factory oil and filter at that time.
I use Motul 5-30w and Wix filter.
This change I went with the large Wix filter.
Anyway, the catch can was about 3/4 full with what looked like dirty thin oil.
Stuff I am glad that was not in my cylinders and on my valves.
My anecdotal experience says no controversy, catch cans work.

Its thin due to the trace amounts of fuel and water that are also in the mix. Oil separators have always worked. The debate arises when it comes to the long term benefits and if someone is going to keep their vehicle long enough to care if that shit gets shot back through the motor. To me its like hocking up phlegm and swallowing it.

(Instead of saying how full the reservoir is, how many ounces are you pouring out? 3/4 full on some cans would be close to 6 ounces which is quite a bit of blowby for a 4K mile interval. I wasn't even getting that much blowby when I had a motor with blown compression in cylinder 3.)

That's about what I get with my Mishi can. I'm at about 27k now.

1. Its hocking up phlegm and then spitting it out.
2. I'd estimate the can is 6 oz. so maybe 4 1/2 oz.; 4300 miles to be exact. I checked it at about 2k and there was little, since then I have done a lot of bolt ons and tune, Id bet that its the tune and increased performance increasing the blow by.
3. Im a car keeper, most for more than 100k; I want performance and longevity.

110k on mine the last time I changed oil. My Misimoto catch can has been on since about 14k. I don't get a tablespoon out it each oil change. I have replaced the bronze/brass filter in it once at about 85k after it became plugged up.
