Just my take on these wheels. First I am not a fan of black wheels I just think they leave a lot on the table. Chrome .......Not so much, but Magnetic or Brushed alum good to go. You need a little flash/color to set off your ride. But seriously the cost of C/F for a daily driver is insane. The new wheels are part # FR3Z-1007-R (Front 19x11) Retail price $4,174.93 EA. and Part# FR3Z-1007-S (Rear 19x11.5) Retail price $3,536.33 Each.

Now unless you are extremely wealthy or maybe just don't care. These wheels are not for anyone driving around in city traffic. Take into account pot holes, road rash, and curbing. For the average guy trying to keep his ride in pristine condition I can not see paying the price for these wheels justifies what repair or replacement will be. Just consider the fact what some "Yahoo" using an impact gun on them will do.
See how that works out for you. Your thoughts!
Try this on for size. 4 wheels retail cost...Wait for it...$15,422.52 You can buy a brand new car for that.

I love black rims...but I agree with you 100% on your other points. Some day hopefully carbon fiber rims will be common and not a huge cost. I just love the weight savings as well as the look.

You are correct sir! I was reading the new Hot Rod article and the wheels are covered in an article on page 88 and the question the magazine asks is ....IS YOUR HOT ROD READY FOR THEM TOO? meaning you can buy them from Ford to put on your street car. Also the GT350R will be purchased by some and never used on the track.

Unless you are hardcore into racing and looking to get every single bit of weight savings you can.... there is no point in dropping that kind of coin on a DD. The only reason Ford is offering them stand alone is for the people who own 350R's. CF is expensive and heaven forbid you hit a pothole and crack one of those.... I mean there are plenty of shops out there that can wrap any wheel in cf for the look for less than $1k.

Personally I think black wheels are far better looking than chrome, machined, etc... That is def. all personal preference though. Half the reason I chose the PP option was for the black rims. Those CF Ford wheels aren't just lighter, they are EXTREMELY strong as well. Would I consider paying the asking price though??? Helllll Noooooo. But Nice wheels none the less.

I think they're that expensive as Ford hit up some small shop in Australia that were the only people making them... Getting that small shop to produce the number needed for just the R was already a challenge. I'd imagine they'd go down in cost in a few years.

But yeah, I wouldn't put them on my car here in LA... The sheer amount of potholes and bad roads... Cracking a $4000 rim would be just horrible.

Talking about the appearance is missing the point entirely.

Yes, they're expensive MSRP, and yes they are painted black (a clear coat wouldn't give the UV protection that carbon fiber needs), but they're for the track 'R' car, which probably doesn't have HVAC or a radio either.

If you want similar looking wheels, and want them in other colors, Paul at N4SM is having (still lightweight) replicas custum built with a more conventional technique, and you can get an entire set complete with good tires for less than the MSRP price of one carbon fiber wheel.

Finally Australia makes something which is expensive in America and not the other way around haha.

I got a quote down here from the manufacturer $6,000 a corner, unless it was going to make my car spit gold dust I wasn't interested

Carbon wheels are stronger, less likely to crack, or bend than aluminum or steel. Does that make them worth the asking price? Of course not and the price Ford is asking is not meant to reflect the price of mass produced wheels for sale to the general public. If I could afford a McLaren P1 I'd have carbon fiber wheels.

They won't fit your car anyway(non-GT350) so don't worry about it.
