Thinking in investing in an outdoor car cover for Mustang GT. Any suggestions as to best ones?

I got mine from specialisedcovers . com around last April as there weren't many options at the time unless I was willing to get some universal cover or import one from the US.

It's the Stormshield+ model (3 layers + soft lining) and fits perfectly as long as I don't fold the mirrors in. Also has a couple straps to keep it secure. It's not waterproof but certainly protects against snow and frost.

The only real downside is this thing is huge! Folded up and in its bag, I'd say you'd be hard pushed to fit it in the boot. I don't have a picture to hand, sorry.

In total I paid around £350, but that was with the additional security pack.

I see there's also now a fitted cover on the ford accessories site if you're after something official but I've no idea of the quality.

I use Classic Additions' Ultimate Outdoor cover. I've used a few over the years, and this one has given the car the best protection so far - I've only washed the car once since October! :)

I got warned off "contact" car covers if at all possible due to paint damage. Not an issue when the car was clean. but the equivalent of a brillo pad if put on over a dirtier car and it was windy.

Went for this from Dancover instead, which I appreciate won't suit everybody. As a temporary structure it doesn't require permissions.

I need a cover but was put off by reports of paint damage even if you have a clean car.

It's a Dancover Portable Garage PRO 3.3x6x2.4 m PVC, Green
I paid £375 in a sale, but they are definitely negotiable (currently showing £415)
https://www.dancovershop.com/uk/product/portable-garage-pro-33x6x24-m-pvc-green.aspx

It is secured by 2 x foot long steel pins in each corner around a hasp which you hammer down at an angle to make an X. You can also use weights and ties if you can't get into the ground and they sell these as an add-on. I also bought a groundsheet but that was overkill.

It's not budged in some pretty decent winds so far. Flaps a bit at either end, but that's been the worst of it. No sideways wobble which is what I was concerned about.

nick1 we do an indoor / outdoor cover and a deluxe outdoor cover.

Standard indoor /outdoor one here https://www.steeda.co.uk/mustang-s550-car-covers-c2x21359882

S550-Car-Cover-Steeda-Logo-zoom.jpg

Re damage from covers: Manufacturers guide:

"All our fabrics and fittings are non scratch & developed specifically for use with painted car surfaces but the car should be clean prior to fitment. If the car is not clean, particles of grit and dirt could be trapped between the fabric & the paintwork & this could produce scratches or abrasions. "

The Steeda standard cover fabric is very smooth on the inside and all fittings are non-scratch.

The main thing is to never cover a wet car.

Standard: (Silver): £189 inc Vat
Deluxe: Teflon coated and choice of colours £559 inc vat

Standard fits fine with a Steeda wing too. We also do protective "wing socks" to cover wing and protect it and the cover.

Garage

Moving house on the 1st and just measured new garage and its 8.5 cm's too short FFS.

Means my 911 will have to go in garage (it fits) but the Mustang that should be arriving in November won't be able to so I'm left with 3 options:

1. Move to off site underground garage that 911 is currently in

2. Buy a car barn as pictured above

3. Buy a really good outdoor cover

I'm not sure what to do at the moment - gutted it won't fit.

Both cars will need to go on trickle chargers as neither are daily drivers.

Stupid builders!!!

From someone who used an out door car cover.... don't. It took me hours to remove scratches in the paint from it. I only ever use it now right after I've cleaned the car and if preferable when it's in the garage too to stop dust etc. Unless said cover has enough overhand that every edge you can tuck under the car and secure in some way, the air going inside blasts the cover around.

also...

Option 4) Extend garage

Cheers - ok that leaves Option 1 and 2 then as the garage literally can't be extended as behind it is a utility room and its a load bearing wall and it can't come any further forward.

Bus did you put it on a dirty car? I keep looking at them because sometimes I will wash the car, then not drive it for a few days. Then of course the time comes and that bastard dusty rain has ruined it...

Like the ones on the ford website that have "Mustang" across the back  anyone got one?

P.s. I can barely fit my cleaning supplies in my garage - full of crap  not that the Mustang would fit in it anyway of course

No, clean car, I mean now it's only after a proper clean, not even a snowfoam shampoo clean... no matter how "soft touch" the fabric is, wind getting in and battering will cause very very micro scratches, took a lot of wax and polish to get the clear coat back again...

I think Snorty has one that says Mustang, but to be honest, £20 cover or a £400 covers, all the same shiz really I think

Made the Mistake once, keep the covers away from wind, or find a way to stop wind getting into them (impossible). The bubbles and the pop up tents are probably the best ideas for car covers if you haven't got a garage.
