Went to downshift to 5th today to change lanes and had a super embarrassing gear-buzz moment. This isn't the first time my car has kicked me out of a 5th shift, down or up. I actually went out and got the Blowfish bracket ~500mi in because I thought maybe misalignment going up was the issue. It DEFINITELY made it better, but apparently didn't fix the problem. It's not like this is happening every day, but it seems like maybe a $40k performance car shouldn't be doing this if my old 01 Toyota didn't. I do get a consistently notchy "2-step" type engagement every time I hit 5th, although generally it DOES go into gear. Any thoughts?

P.S. This is my first post on the boards, but you guys have been helping me out for months on anything from 50th anniversary emblems falling off to buzzes in the dashboard. Thanks for any input!

My 5th gear is notchy most of the time. I'll need to try a different fluid to try to get rid of the notchiness.

My interior rattles sometimes too. Some folks put felt on their connectors behind the dash and other buzzing components.

I downshift into 5th and 4th at highway speeds all the time and have never had it grind once. I also don't have the stock shifter installed.

Did you just put a Steeda replacement shift lever in? Or did you replace the entire assembly? (Just going off your signature.)

Currently I only have the lever installed, I am waiting for the Tri Ax race shifter to arrive.

Mine is very notchy going into 5th gear every time, cold or hot. I have an MGW and bg synchro shift fluid and it didn't solve the issue. along with all sorts of other noises I've learned to live with. I stopped worrying about it for now, if she goes I'll probably send it to rev auto for a stage 2 rebuild.
