Are they no longer tough? I figured the F-150 would have stuck with that as it's well known and the most successful vehicle they have.

I can see using proud on the other models though, but not the F-150.

How about instead of working on a catchy slogan, they work on their quality control... SMH
Yep, one of the biggest problems overall with American car companies in general. Failure rate much higher.

If that's what they want to do, but I'm not buying a new hitch cover. Don't care what they call 'em.

Simply a distraction. "Almost double" was better...

Japanese owned companies.

Toyota/Honda/Mazda

Even the US built ones are higher quality due to more strict quality control. It's been like this for years.

You obviously have not seen the last decade of quality reports. All manufacturers have issues. The only advantage Japanese manufacturers have now, is lower oversight from their government agencies. Most issues today on all cars, is with electronics. When Sync first came out, it was lauded by the public and press. Within two years, other manufacturers had caught up, and Sync was a problem because Microsoft did not keep up with the market. Sync 3 was developed independent of MS. Prophet and fool are two sides of the same coin.

I'm not talking about Infotainment issues. That's a separate issue each of them run into. I'm looking at strictly mechanical related issues. Hell, I had to have Ford fix my passenger door on my Mustang because it was rubbing the front quarter on the passenger side. How do you miss something like that in QA?

Not a single issue with any Japanese car I've bought. Do I hate my Mustang? Not at all, but the reality is American cars still have poor QA.

The Mustang in particular has pretty poor control over gaps/flushness and the associated visual issues as well as things like rattles. Two areas to blame: a bad dimensional management strategy (body engineering and body advanced manufacturing) and a refusal of the engineering team to push back on the plant to do things to get better dimensional management.

It's not simply a case of bad American car vs import, but rather a lack of focus on key aspects that have a giant cascade of effects on actual or perceived quality. I work in Body structure engineering so it's difficult to see where these things went wrong, and you just shake your head. I still love my Mustang though.

Quality control issues are never static. Most manufacturers have problems due to the constant need to change and control costs. And they have to anticipate the fickle needs of the public years in advance. All cars and trucks will have a small number of issues due to various events. Most serious problems are due to sub-contractors failing to meet expectations, i.e. Takada. Engineers are human, and there are good ones, and bad ones. And even the good ones have difficulties with management fools and bean counters. Fit and finish issues are suppose to be caught at various stages. The stage that hurts most makers is the final one, at the dealerships. Unfortunately for manufacturers, this is where most issues are given the least attention. And the U.S makes suffer from ancient contracts that give dealers the ability to ignore practices that foreign makers have as standard practice.
