Is there a dust/heat shield cover behind the rear discs? I have this awful screeching/grinding noise (had a thread about it) and had the car dropped at the dealer this morning. The car has 2000 miles, which seemed insane for a potential wheel bearing failure, but someone just suggested I might just have a gravel stuck up against the back of the disc. It's a cyclical sound, so it's there the whole time but every revolution it has one spot that sounds worse. This is at even the slightest speed. I'm sure you all know these cars kick up gravel like no other, and my street has quite a bit of crumbly asphalt, and even in my driveway I have to drive over an asphalt patch that is loose.

It's on the dealer parking lot for at least another day before they get it in. I thought I might stop by on my way home today and poke around, but it's wet out and the lot is in bad shape. I don't really want to try to take the wheel off there myself. Is there an area where I could stick something long in there and push on the dust cover and see if something falls out?

I just went ahead and called the service manager. He said the wheel would have to come off to get to the cover. Seemed like he's in agreement though and is gonna try to have someone take it for a spin this afternoon.

It stopped squealing during their test drive. They took off the wheel and checked for rocks and damage and everything looked ok. I got it back and it's been good!

I'm having the exact same problem after driving on some semi-paved back roads. The squeak is from the rear passenger wheel. Audible from about 5-10 mph and up. Gets slightly louder when I brake. After a few hard breaks it is quieter. I'll drive it another day or so and if it still hasn't gone away I'll make an appointment with the dealer. Or just take the wheel off myself if I'm feeling ambitious.
