I believe the actual connecting bolts to the driveshaft to the trans are 80 ft pounds if i remember right. Since these have the same rotational force I would not think they would be any different. A little locktight always helps ease the worries.

I agree in theory BUT these are significantly smaller and 80 ft.lbs is double what the charts say is the limit for this size/grade bolt.

Since the the drive shaft would fall off if either all 3 of these small bolts failed or if all 3 of the larger bolts going into the trans output failed, I can only assume that forces sent from the tires into the DS were less than the forces the engine could deliver to the DS. So the bolts thru the coupling could be weaker for one direction than the other. Most load from engine would be clutch drop at max HP in 1st gear? Most load from tires would be reving the car to redline with wheels in the air and dropping the car? Was that enough theory to be dangerous? Regardless, for whatever reason, Ford did use 3 small bolts to connect the coupling to the DS and 3 larger bolts to connect the coupling to the trans output.

Anyone know the part number for 3 larger bolts to connect the coupling to the trans output?
