Might want to focus more on sticking to the ground, then. Both types of driving you enjoy are more suspension/tire focused than power. At which point maybe an ecoboost with a tune is the better decision and you can dump the money saved into wheels, tires, and coilovers.
Thanks for the insight Mike! I didn't put much thought into suspension/tire focus but your point has me interested. I'll have to so some further looking!

The autocross events that I've been to have all had different classes for different levels of modifications so I would check to see what class you'll be racing in with planned modification A, B or C before I do anything if you want to be competitive. With that in mind I would focus on suspension, sway bars, chasis stiffening, brakes, a steering stabilizer, weight distribution, weight reduction, lighter wheels with maybe a different offset and tires with a different compound suited to the surface you'll be racing on before you try and add more power. Autocross courses are usually small and tight because they're held in parking lots so it's usually not so much about big power as it is handling and driver skill IMO.

If the car is a manual I would look into an aftermarket shifter with a more positive feel and adjustable stops. Another thing to look at would be something to give you better throttle response with the drive-by-wire system.

If it was me with 3.5k to spend and I already had the 3.73 gears with the PP....it would be all at once the following:

Headers (no cats) + 3" catback + CAI - TUNE TIME!!

IMO - this should get you in the 500hp range at the flywheel and probably 430+ish at the wheels. Just my .02

could make more rwhp but def. should expect the 430...i forget what all Barrel has done but he is putting down some nice numbers.

one more thing....if you had the full exhaust done - you would be SET up for whatever power adder later on and make even MORE HP - after another tune of course. ;)

Since I am running an <gasp> automatic transmission, I'll be taking the "lighten" approach instead of forced induction. On my last car, going with lighter rims and rotors shaved .4s off my 0-60 time.

That is very impressive!
What have you done so far to your S550 to be putting down that kind of power?
Full exhaust, CAI, and custom dyno tune.

TBH the SW high flow cats only took my power down 3 or so hp. Worth it so that my car doesn't smell once she's warm. Some of the high flow cats have pretty low restriction. The 440hp I put down was with the cats installed - but open after that.

Awesome to know Barrel, I have never tried highflow cats on any of my previous cars. I might try them on this one just to keep the ease of inspection here in TX. Especially if they perform as well as you say.

Full exhaust, CAI, and custom dyno tune.

How much would this cost roughly?
Hit up one of the vendors on the forum for pricing, but you can get the full exhaust for $2500. The CAI was $400. I bought the new SCT tuner to hold the files for $400. Installation was $650 and the dyno tune was $450.

So total was $4400. Not the best value for overall performance by far...but the sound, the power...what an incredible experience driving this car is. I coulda bought an M4, but where's the fun in that? :headbonk:
