I've been clearing years of accumulated auto cr@p out of the garage with a view to slotting my new Mustang when it arrives. My garage is wide enough but the door is quite narrow so can someone please tell me:

How wide is the Mustang with the mirrors out?

Can you drive forward with them folded?

If so how much narrower is that?

Thanks
Richard

Hi Richard, not sure if the exact dimensions (if you check the Ford UK website you'll find them) but can confirm that you CAN drive forward with them folded.

HOWEVER, I was in a similar situation to you when mine arrived in April. It is wide with a big ass and in the end the gap in my garage was just too narrow for me to risk it - so I bit the bullet and had some work done on my garage so I've got plenty of room now (hopefully I've not jinxed it!)

Folding the mirrors doesn't make enough of a difference IMHO.

My garage door is 2125mm wide, which I assume is a standard size.

I put my car away every night.

The first night I got someone to guide me in centrally on the door. I then got out and looked at the gap each side of the front wings. It was about 100mm each side.

I then knew I'd be ok on the passenger side if I had about that on my side, lean out of the window for this. The mirrors need to be folded in as I go through the door. I fold them in as they get close to the door and put my hand between it and the door to make sure it's not touching as it passes. I then fold it out and drive in watching rear wings in mirrors.

It sounds a faff, but it's easy after a few times.

Length wise the car is needing 4900mm. So again assuming my garage is standard (it's a new build double) that gives about 400mm for some shelving in front of car.

I drive in the garage left door, so I open my car door into the empty bay. I'd say you'll be screwed in a single garage. (But I'm a fat lad).

Hope I've helped.

I have a single garage and the car does fit (mirrors folded), its pretty tight on the door mechanism itself, probably about 1-1.5 inches each side, but once the mirrors are through the back end is no problem. Normally get someone to sight me in, but reckon I could do it on my own should I need to. If the mechanism didn't stick out an extra 2 inches each side it would be easy. Just so happens the bottom of the door mechanism is at Mustang mirror height

I am currently trying to find someone who will fit new garage doors (barn door style) by removing the door frame built inside the brickwork and fitting a new one outside the brickwork, so I get the extra the current frame takes up...if that makes sense. WIthout it it would be VERY tight and I know one day it would cause issues. Should have checked before buying really, but hey ho...... Good excuse for garage refurb

Thanks for the help everyone. Looks like the car will just fit through the door with the mirrors out as the door is 2125mm wide but it looks as though it's the car's length that's going to be the issue.

The garage is just 400mm longer than the car and I have 500mm racking at the end. So it looks like the racking is going to have to go in the shed.....

Question:

If I was to reverse in do the reverse sensors give you an accurate indication of how far away you are i.e. could you judge 200mm from the back garage wall with them?

The camera will allow you to judge that more accurately than the sensors.

It shows the furtherst protusion of the bumper so can be used to get RIGHT up to something.

I'd practice in empty parking spaces first, that way you can see how close things actually are vs how close they look on the screen.

Just put a piece of wood on the floor where you want the wheels to stop, i use a bit of scaffold plank. When you get to the plank you are far enough in :)
