Being that I made the discovery 10 months ago Kemal Curic was designer of the S550, I recently checked his updated resume. According to that and a Ford insider's October 2012 commentary, the S550 final design was frozen around December 1, 2012 for August 2014 start of production. It took 6 months for prototypes to be built and hit the road in June 2013.

October 5, 2012 commentary on S550 design process

Actual design stage they were probably at in September/October 2012:

S550 Designer Resume points to design development ending in December 2012.

Original 2012 1:1 S550 design models

This all came after September 2012 design clinics, that followed a design direction change-up by Ford executives in early-mid 2012. In midst of this, many interpretations were off-point in being heavily Evos inspired or merely PSed S-197s.

Shortly after that, John McBride, known here as JohnnyGMachine, did these beautiful sketches of his in March and April 2013(red GT500).

The very first interpretation of the S550, that was not only sexy, but a realistic and feasible design direction, hot on the heels of Ford's design team. He did this in only having this November 2012 test mule as a genuine reference.

His sketches led everyone in the right direction to the actual S550 design that had been finalized a few months earlier in December 2012. He was unfairly accused of making a "Camaro look alike", which turned out to the best and most accurate "conceptual" sketch of the S550.(Chazcron got the production version right)

Prior to March/April 2013, I hardly paid attention on development of the S550 due to little info. After seeing this exact image below that same month, I fell in love with it and became very focused on the S550.

When one uses the "Search Google for this image" to research his silver drawing, this 2015 Mustang GT video still is considered similar and recommended. That's how good it was, as it looks exactly like an actual S550 concept design sketch. He knew there would no longer be a side scoop, when many disputed his theory. The sketch's headlights also have an interpretation of the gills seen on the production model.

He's done similarly in the past with the Camaro concept. Before these photos of it were leaked in late 2005.

If it wasn't for his then-new direction Wild Speed and Chazcron may have not come up with these early renders of theirs as easily without later clues(prototypes, CAD files). Chazcron later on improved his accuracy after the August 20th leak and became even more dead on.

Chazcron(also jjw) from there on out nailed it down to a tee, that one can only wonder how much it concerned Ford executives. Unfortunately, too many detractors outside M6G doubted the validity of his(their) renders, They overvalued Jalopnik's inaccurate render below and stupid C&D's bogus leak that stole from him(them).

By December 5th, it was obvious Chazcron & jjw practically spoiled everyone with a 99% leaked S550 by 6-8 weeks and deserved the utmost thanks/applause.

I only bring this up to credit everyone that were heavy forces in developing(Ford personnel) and previewing (M6G members, Mustang community, etc.). Hope this isn't exactly a pointless thread.

Great thread and, having been folloing S550 from Day 1, I think you've accurately captured the timeline :)

Thanks! Hoping to fill the blanks a little bit and also remind everyone of how JohnnyG initially hypothesized a design, that not really anyone had previously conceived of as a possibility. I have yet to see him get some due credit for his foresight, doing that months ahead of any real evidence. While a number of us made interesting renders, JohnnyG and Chazcron are responsible for relaying factual design information early to us.

Good thread man. Having followed the site since close to the beginning and the renders, spy photos, etc I think you captured it well here. It's been fun, thanks in large part to the artists you mentioned. They got us through some very slow news periods. :clap2:

Awesome thread. Now if only ford would fix the awful foglight/turn signal area. It looks horrific. Just make it look like the fusions fog light area.

Following the renders and speculation on this site was fun and probably helped sell me on acquiring the new car. Now if only I could decide which existing Mustang I should sell for it.

Wow, what a great wrap-up review of the 2015 Mustang story here at mustang6g.com.

I am shocked at how accurate Mcbrides renderings were, but I confess I don't recall seeing them before I started doing my 'clay sculpt' camo-removing renders.

While the red one looks like I was influenced by Mcbride's render, it was actually my first attempt at grafting onto my renders the styling of the Evos, which I had resisted up to that point. But by then, it was becoming more and more clear that the Evos was more than just a grandiose styling exercise in respect to the Mustang.

I greatly appreciate the acknowledgment that I was getting close before I was getting 'whispers' from other M6g members. All of those images were done before I was influenced by sketches by a member who claimed they had seen CAD images and by the anonymously sent low res, distorted cell phone images that may or may not have been of real FOMOCO CAD images. I have no way of knowing if they were genuine or not, I had to rely on my instincts, as I had done before with my 'clay' images

While I was amused at the detractor's insistance that I was off the mark, I remained unbowed.

As close as I ended up getting, it pleases me that it pales in comparison to the real thing. For that I am grateful to Kemal Curic and all the designers at Ford who swung for the bleachers and succeeded. Honorable mention has to go to the amazing work of the spy photographers. I am really looking forward to seeing it in person.

It was my greatest pleasure and enjoyment to fulfill my goal of transforming spot shots into something closely resembling the finished product for a very appreciative, knowledgeable and entertaining group of people; the members of Mustang6G.com, from whom I drew a considerable amount of guidance, inspiration, encouragement and maybe even a few secrets.

Thank you all.
