Anyone have thermostat or temp issues?

Went out for a little cruise today and the check engine light came on. Immediately drove to local dealer for a checkup. They said low coolant temp and may need a new thermostat. 3100 miles on the car?

my instructor's R got the thermostat replaced as well.
seems to be one of the common weak points of the the power train.
