A paint thickness guage will give you a good idea of what you are working with, I was thinking of using a carpro velvet pad and knocking down some of the high spots to even it out a bit but not totally remove it. Wetsanding is out because it will likely thin the clear too much and remove most of the UV protection. Seems to be the case with just about every mass produced new car these days.

Thinner paint is better for rock chip resistance

Lol...

My black car would suggest otherwise.

2000 miles and both rear quarters are showing chips. My guess is it is a combination of things varying between clear coat hardness, paint hardness, and adhesion to the ecoating.

But I dont put much in Ford paint. That is after seeing virtually every white ford from 95-2010 develop paint problems/peeling to include my 95 Cobra which is mild compared to some.

Thicker paint is more fragile than thinner layers of paint because the thin paint will take on the flexibility properties of the metal instead of immediately fracturing upon impact with rocks or other stuff.

I don't doubt you have rock chips, but there would be even more chips if the paint layers were more thick
