After using it for a bit it seems rather useless unless you use a tablet or some other device along those lines.

As long as Sync needs a connected phone to do anything the WiFi is just redundant. Also, my phone is AT&T and I usually measure faster DL speeds with the phone on LTE vs. WiFi.

Using WiFi on your phone adds an extra layer of complexity as it's passing data to the phone and then the phone sends it back over BT or USB.

The in vehicle WiFi is AT&T LTE speeds. I use Verizon, but the AT&T Wifi built in is just as fast as Verizon from my experience using it. I'm using the Wifi data for Waze, Spotify, and other apps so I'm not using my Verizon plan. It doesn't make anything slower going from the phone, back to the vehicle.

No, I just ran some speed tests to see what, if any, differences there were. My phone did better but not so much so that it would matter. But at one point I had to drop the Sync WiFi connection on my phone as I lost connectivity. It returned when back to LTE.

I just wish the Sync 3 head unit could operate independent of a phone connection (like I've seen in Audi cars). But I guess the system is built around being driven by a smartphone.

I'd be happy if it were Verizon LTE as it would help supplement my AT&T connection (which is terrible in rural areas).

That's the main reason why I switched to Verizon from AT&T. I'm up in the mountains often and AT&T wouldn't work at all. Verizon does.

Yup, I'm vacationing in Montana now. Luckily people with me have Verizon. AT&T has something against mountains, lol.
