Sounds like the center or strut shaft is not torqued properly.

Steeda Tech
SN.webp

This nut that's connected to the strut shaft right?? It was torqued to 80 ft/lbs this morning when it's supposed to be at 76 ft/lbs. That video was done after it was torqued. There's just no way it could by loose or torqued improperly now.

I feel your pain man :frusty: I have clunking sounds over bumps and rattling sounds over cracked road surfaces. The sound is coming from the front passenger side. It started after I had my Steeda Shocks/Struts, progressive lowering springs, and sway bars installed.

These are some clips of what my car sounds like over mild road imperfections:

At first I thought that the cause of these sounds could be due to front sway bar being loose so I brought it back to the shop that installed these parts. I looked at the car with the tech and we couldn't find anything loose. We noticed that there was oily fluid coating my front lowering springs. We both agreed that the source of this lubricant had to be from the strut leaking and squirting it all over the springs. I don't see any other way that this lubricant could end up on my springs.

I'm going to call Steeda about getting replacement struts since I think mine are blown. I probably got some defective ones. I've only had them on for 3 months and 3k miles.

Did you ever find a solution?

This is my life right now... I could live with the chirps, but not this. Once I fixed the rear passenger clunk, which ended up being that the spring was mounted upside down, it turned out that noise was masking a passenger front clunk that's just as bad or worse. I've checked everything that had to be loosened to install the springs and nothing adds up, I've even broken some things this is maddening.:frusty:

1. My strut tower brace is torqued well over spec, to the point where one of the thread, nuts broke off.

2. My strut nuts are torqued to 80lb/ft (I know it's supposed to be 76lb/ft, but I'm paranoid with anxiety at this point), and scratched some paint off the shock tower and broke the top of it off just before the threads (thankfully this can be welded and glued on and left alone).

3. My passenger side OEM sway bar end links were once over torqued to somewhere between 90-110lb/ft because I thought that was the cause after doing some searching. But last night I decided to loosen them and torque it back to 86lb/ft where it should be and that's done nothing. The end link doesn't look damaged to me at a glance. It's not bent or cracked or anything.

This is very depressing for me, and it's honestly taking the fun out of driving the car hearing this noise every second on every road that isn't brand new (and every road in Michigan SUCKS). It's torture, and I'm just out of ideas at what it could be at this point, I know it's definitely not the springs anymore at this point though. I don't wanna take it to the dealer because warranty won't cover it, and last time I ended up paying $100 for no successful difference. The chirps can stay for all I care if I can get rid of this fraking clunk. :(

I just completed my installation of the Steeda Pro Action struts and shocks along with Steeda camber plates and progressive springs so maybe I can offer a little assistance. As Jbailer stated in an earlier post it is a possibility that your front springs are not seated properly. This could cause a knocking sound over bumps due to the upper front spring isolator/bearing assembly not being seated properly. One way to determine if this is a possible cause would be to back up and go forward while turning the wheel full left and then right. If there is a popping sound that could be your problem.

Another thing to note is that Steeda uses rubber isolators on the front progressive springs. These are designed to prevent metal to metal contact when the spring fully compresses. If you look carefully at the spring while under full load from the vehicle the upper portions of the springs are much closer together than the lower section of the springs. Make sure that the rubber isolators on the springs are oriented in a manner that they are located at the upper part of the springs.

Also it should be noted that the Steeda progressive springs come from Steeda with a lubricant that was used to slide the rubber isolator on to the spring. My guess is this is the oil that the tech noticed on the front springs.
