Recently I purchased a staggered wheel/tire kit from american muscle and they included the valve stem mounted TPMS sensors, etc.

Everything arrived as it should (except for the tires being grossly over inflated) and they look great on the car, but I can't get the TPMS to reprogram with the TPMS transmitter tool. I've tried everything dozens of times and on all different wheels, and still cant get it to recognize the sensors.

Has anyone else had this issue with aftermarket sensors and wheels? What did you do to fix it? I emailed AM support, and I'm still waiting to hear back from them.

I'd love to hear if anyone has any recommendations I can try to get it working properly.

Thanks!

How are you putting the car into training mode?

TPMS

When I bought my RTR wheels, I changed out their generic TPMS and added the Ford Performance version. Cost a little extra as it includes the remote.

Like you, over inflated. Maybe air pressure fiffferent in PA. All around 40psi. Since I didn’t let air out, almost reached max PSI on a hot day cruise.

Anyhow, I had to hold the remote VERY close to the stem before the car would recognize them. Until I figured that out, I was having a lot of trouble getting it to work.

Hi guys, thanks for the responses. So far I've tried these methods:

1) The standard american muscle instructions (Aka, Brake --> ignition 5 times --> Brake ---> Ignition 6 times.

2) The hazard switch method that some said worked for older TPMS sensors.

3) Completely deflated them, then inflated them up to spec and then attempted both 1 and 2, and still nothing.

4) Took them to my local ford dealer to see if could train them (thinking maybe my training tool was defective) and they were not able to get it to train.

The mechanic at the dealership was suspicious that maybe the sensors may not have been installed. I'm starting to lean toward that myself. They didn't have time to unmount the tire and check, but that would be very frustrating if thats the case.

Is there any way to visually inspect from the outside of the tire, to see if the sensors are installed? Or no way but to get in there and check.

I could be wrong, but if any of the sensors are not installed or working, you should see a tire pressure error icon when the car is running. If you’re getting values, then they are installed.

Are you able to get the car INTO the training mode? It starts, I believe, with the driver side front wheel.

If not, go on YouTube. That’s where I followed the instructions to setup my wheels.

If the tpms is bad or doesnt work a TPMS low pressure light wills how on the left of the cluster.

Now when you look at the valve stem the OEM is a rubber sleeved copper inserted stem.

Is this stem you have on the wheel just rubber like you can bend it or its stiff ?

You could have 4 situations occuring

1. Bad sensors so they dont register
2. No sensors at all
3. Sensor broke inside during mounting
4. Wrong sensor as in wrong frequency for instance 433 euro instead of 315 North America.

Unfortunately, my car shows no values for the tire pressure and I get the nag light on the dash.

I'm able to get it into training mode, but from there nothing else happens.

I'll have to confirm on my lunch break, but I believe the stem is stiff. The inside portion has a red gasket/seal and the thread itself I believe looked like cooper.

I should have just gone the route I wanted too from the start. Originally I was going to get some MRR rims and some tires, and swap the old sensors from my stock rims. But I thought this route sounded convenient and slightly cheaper. But with the sensor issues, and a giant scratch on one my rims, etc you get what you pay for I suppose. :frusty:

You haven’t gotten what you paid for. Make AM fix it. They should either at their cost except return for all wheels or at least replace the the one damaged and supply you with new TMPS and refund whatever it costs for you to have all the wheels redone.

Dont stress about it brotha, if the thread section is copper then its a sensor, just may be a bad batch who knows things happen. Lord knows things have happened here at my shop that left me scratching my head before.

Ok, the brake (with ignition off), ignition 5 times without actually starting the car, (ignition should be on now) brake ignition 6 times is the correct method. The toggle switches never worked for me. Car would say it was in training mode but it would not work.

After that holding the training tool near the valve stem on the wheel or rim for 1-5 seconds should work.

If you've been trying to use the toggle switches, I think that method is just flat out broken

Yeah. I'm thinking they are just defective. I broke down and ordered a set of four oem replacements, and i'll just return these ones.

Thanks for all the responses guys!

When i got my wheel n tire package all i did is mount on the car and they instantly learned them selves. Are you sure they didn't screwup and use regular valve stems , instead of TPMS ?

I wondered about this too! Even though I had the tool and used it, it seemed like they were working already after the tires got installed.
