The 18's when they hit will command full prices, or even crazy prices from markups...The ones on the lot will have every bloody option to push their prices higher. But down the line, about 6 months in or more, you will see them coming down to earth. There will be incentives, and special buys and whatnot's. By this time the GT500's or the Bullit will be hitting lots and nobody will care about the regular GT's.

If you account for 3% inflation a 40k Car purchased in 2015 would cost $42550.46 in 2017

Base GT had a ton of new additions as well as the ability to get sync 3 without have to go premium. Those additions are worth the bump in my mind and the bump is no where near “Overpriced”. Take inflation into account and it’s, no question, a good bang for the buck.

People comparing the 2018 price to the price they paid for theirs is ridiculous as most of those people bought a 17 (or their model year) at the end of its cycle when it’s signicantly discounted. Buy an 18 this time next year and you can get a GT PP with Mag OTD for low 30’s as well, but by that time people will be complaining the 2019 is “horribly overpriced” and the 18 is such a better deal.

It blows my mind that someone would look at the $60k Mustang and think that’s representative of the entire line. If you want to visit New York and see a hotel room for $1k a night, you don’t cancel the trip because going to New York is too expensive. You just find the cheaper option and enjoy the trip with less amenities.

There are already dealers knocking off 4k on ordered inventory. Do a nationwide inventory search. Bullitt will be cool, but not everyone will want a green mustang. I plan to order my GT. I'm not falling for the on the lot sales pitch.

Concur. I plan to change the wheels and springs, but want the 3.73s and torsen dif. If they let me order the 3.73s on a black accent package mustang, ill definitely go for it. If not, ill have to do the PP.

The problem is that 301A should be standard. What you are really buying is the honor of not having that preposterous keypad radio borrowed from a Fiesta. A 2K bump with 301A standard would have been acceptable.

As for how long it will take for prices to drop? My 2c is that the only people who will be paying MSRP or plus are people who either don't care or don't want to negotiate at all. These are not like GT350s, there will be no limit on how many are available. My hope and prediction is 3-4K off MSRP almost immediately (as soon as stocks come in) and 6 months from actual introduction (May 2018) you will see discounts approaching 17 discounts (6K plus off MSRP).

You have to look at the real competition, Camaro and Challenger. If you are looking at the PP you have to compare it to the 1LE, which gives you way more for $6500 than the PP gives you for $4000. Trucar is currently putting a 1SS 1LE at $39K (6K below MSRP). If PP2 comes close to that with comparable equipment (Magnaride, active exhaust, bigger tires/rims, cloth/fake suede Recarros) then I'm in.

The 2018 Nissan Frontier gets air conditioning, cruise control, Bluetooth, and a 5.0-inch color audio display all for a $600 base price increase. The 2017s didn't even come with a radio.

I'm not intending to compare the Mustang to a Nissan Frontier, just making the point that times change, standard options change often included with minimally changed pricing.

I think that it is an option because there are some folks who want to save that $2000. Again, it goes to the strategy of offering a wide range of prices for the Mustang. Someone may want the performance of the GT, but doesn't care about the radio or anything else in the 301A. That 2 grand may be the threshold for some shoppers. Or, someone may have plans to modify and race the car, so they wouldn't need the 301A since most of that crap would be ripped out or modified anyway. In a way, it's nice that Ford offers a true bare bones option for a GT; however, for the rest of us, it kinda sucks because it means that the Mustang as a whole isn't really an upscale/prestigious car.

All that said, keep in mind that the Mustang was born in 1964 as a compact car built on a Falcon chassis that most Americans could afford. Once they figured out the potential the V8 models had, it turned into a performance icon. Ford has done a pretty good job sticking to the Mustang's roots and allowing a wide variety of people to afford one. As a car enthusiast and if I had it my way, you couldn't get a Mustang, Challenger, or Camaro with anything but a V8, but that's just me. Again, even back in 1964, you could get a super cheap Mustang with a straight six.

I know there's all kinds of debate and griping about the cost of the 2018s, but folks are overreacting I think. You can still get a brand new Mustang from $25k all the way to $70+k. That is a huge range and no matter which version or options you choose, they all look good and perform better than many cars out there.

I prefer one somewhere in the upper middle with the balance leaning towards the performance goodies.

Yea, except it's $4000, $2000 base price increase and another $2000 for the 301A that should be standard in 2018. Seriously, it's not like the Sync3 is the most awesome state of the art head unit and what else do you get for your $2000? Dual zone climate control?

If Ford wanted to expand the range they needed to move in both directions, up and down, not just up and more up.

People are walking otd, right now, with 2017 GT with PP at $28-32k. They shipped 11 months ago.

People will do the same in 09/2018 and its completely realistic to anticipate that after rebates, incentives, and a little negotiating you will get to $30-35k for a 2018 GT PP w/ Magneride. Sales tax will obviously change the equation, but in many states it is minimal or capped (not your home state obviously).

Let’s agree to disagree and put a pin in this issue until next September before we GIF ourselves out.

Cruise control costs basically nothing, and A/C is a couple hundred dollars for a manufacturer. The new fuel system is half the cost of the Mustang price increase alone.
