Disclaimer: First time ordering a car

so went into my dealer today with the intention of ordering a 2017 Base GT with the performance package. so the sales rep punched it all in and came up with a price approx. ~$35k or so which included him giving me a "discount".

with taxes total came out to ~$38k give or take. at this point i decided to tell him that i have X-plan which he pretty much told me that it would prob knock off $800 on the $35k pricing. He also stated since its a 2017 ford doesn't really have any incentives atm.

FWIW i told him to find me a 2016 with the same options in the local area since ford has incentives on those and he came back with two matches. emailed the dealers and said he would get back to me within 24-48 hours.

from what ive read people are getting base GT with PP for like $32K-34K OTD, feels like im being ripped off. :(:(:(

should i back off on this order?

You should have your dealer go fetch one of those 2016's from a local area dealer for you. 2016's have rebates (2017's don't yet) and pricing is lower on 2016's.

AnhMaster,
If you REALLY want a 2017, I recommend checking out Truecar.com. Even if you don't use one of their dealers, you can use it as a negotiation tool elsewhere. I did this and ended up ordering my car from a closer dealer that matched the best price.
Keep us informed.

X-plan isn't what it used to be and I'd bet you can do better by negotiating.

I'm also about to order a 2017 GT Convertible with all the options. I wanted to find a 2016, but a GT Convertible Manual with 401A and performance package appears just not to exist. So to get what I want, I'll be ordering.

Truecar.com gives a price that's ~$3500 below MSRP, but as far as I can tell doesn't show me invoice. A lot of the posts here are in comparison to invoice price?

Should I be able to get the Truecar price pretty easily? I think I'm likely to work with one of the dealers it sent me to, in the first place. Do I have to have some direct printout of what truer lists, or any other specifics from it? And, what incentives are available on the 2017 now? Any? (Yes, this is among the reasons why I was hoping to find a 2016...)

Thanks!

Truecar is a broker. If you use some skill and do some investigating, you can negotiate for yourself. 2017's are now advertising 4-6k off MSRP on cars.com. Use them as examples to lower your cost of purchase.

Weird, when I tried truecar on a 2017, it only showed an average savings of $1870. For a 2016, it showed 2750. Maybe it depends on the options? I guess its worth using if you don't have anything else, but I tried using it a couple times in the past and both times the dealer said they were not part of the program or something.
