I’m curious what the differences are in mufflers between an active exhaust car and a non active exhaust car. I’m assuming that the normal mode in an active car is similar to how a non-active car would sound in stock form.

Are the mufflers in an active exhaust car more straight through? Have less baffling? Different chambering?

A car with active exhaust clearly has to keep the valves partially closed to maintain the “normal” volume level. With the valves fully open in “track” mode the car must be louder than a standard GT without active exhaust, I would imagine. I’m simply just curious in the technical differences for the sake of knowledge.

I do have active exhaust on my car and it is one of my favorite features. Quiet mode is awesome, track mode with an x-pipe sounds amazing, and the differences between normal, sport, and track became very obvious with the resonator delete. Anyways, I couldn’t find any solid info on this topic by searching so I thought it would be a decent discussion.

I'd guess it's just exhaust routing. Non-actives likely either have a welded-in valve or internal structure that pushes the fumes more to the outside, which makes it quieter the more exhaust you drive through the baffles vs. straight out the pipe. I don't think it's just a valve welded in place or you'd likely have seen active-exhaust kits that just change the valve instead of having to buy all-new mufflers.

The mufflers are completely different. The non-active mufflers are bigger and have a baffled path for both tips on each muffler. The active mufflers are more oval shaped and have a baffled out tip and the active valve inner tip. The inner tip can be set to basically a straight through design when in Track mode. The non-active mufflers sound like a mix between quiet and normal on the active exhaust equipped cars.

None active is slightly louder than normal mode but not track mode. I had both on my car.
