A new and exciting sound..

Today, I heard a new sound from my car that is worrying. I was driving down the road and I could hear what sounded like something light and metallic hanging off the car and scraping on the road intermittently. So I pulled over and scoured the undercarriage and could find nothing, metallic or otherwise hanging down from my car. Figuring that perhaps something that was dragging fell off, I retraced my driving before i pulled over and couldn't find anything.

Any ideas?
