So after speaking to my local dealer about a 350R I was surprised to find out they don’t have an R allocated to them. They can get the standard car but not the R.

Does anyone know how to go about appealing to Ford for an allocation? Apparently it can be done if anyone follows Joe Raiti’s YouTube channel his dealership did not have one but they somehow pulled strings and got one allocated for himself.

I would prefer to order from the place I’ve been ordering from for years before I have to go to another dealer.

The more Mustangs a dealer sells, the better chance the dealer has of getting an 350R allocation. Your dealer probably has not sold very many Mustangs.

I believe you are correct in that however the aspect of it that surprises me as they are one of only a few dealers in the country that has won fords presidents award over 20 years and in a row and because of that they typically get more allocations for special stuff.

I would be real happy to see the allocation process go away. Ford should let any dealer order a GT350 R Mustang.

I doubt it will go away since Ford uses it as a treat for dealers. “If you sell enough of these base and lower models, we’ll give you a chance to sell one of these exclusive ones that you can run a large ADM on.” That’s the thinking.

I get why they limit it to a degree because they don’t want every dealer just ordering one to sit on the lot but it seems like a poor business practice when someone walks in the door and says I would like to order this car at the dealer has to tell them no.

I get that as the consumer but for Ford their trying to sell more cars to the dealers since they don’t sell direct to people. So in their view if dealers are competing to sell more mustangs so they can get a 350 or a 500, then it makes perfect business sense for them because they sell more mustangs overall. The customer who walks in and is told that they do not have an allocation will not walk away and buy a Dodge (etc.), if they want that exclusive car, they will go to the dealer who has one and buy their car. It would suck if there was a rule like your cable or phone (landline) provider who has grids where anyone in their area only has them as a choice (if you live in a AT&T area, then you have to buy from them, etc). If we could only buy from our local Ford dealer, then we’d be screwed and it would be unfair for the consumer because this allocation setup would impact areas that don’t sell enough mustangs or don’t have the population to even compete with large metro areas, but we don’t live in that world, we can go and buy from anywhere in this nation. I, for instance, went and bought my car from Baton Rouge, LA. I was motivated and searched the whole country to get the color and price that I wanted. To the OP, I would suggest that you start calling around. There are 2020 R models around. It might start being harder since they are the last of the run.

In addition to Ford wanting to keep the R models exclusive for many of their high end dealerships keep in mind that the R models come with many unique features and in some cases very expensive parts therefore the FRAP has to be careful not to overstock on some of these unique parts as not a lot of people want to shell out ~$80,000 for a 2020 GT350R therefore keeping an appropriate parts inventory is crucial for some cars such as the R.

Parts such as the CF wheels and CF wing are very expensive with the wheels coming from Carbon Revolution in Australia and inventory can be difficult at times to control these wheels when from coming abroad.

In addition the 2020 R's come with a larger front chin spoiler, Red brake calipers, rear seat delete, Red accent stitching on many parts of the interior, unique chassis tuning, unique steering wheel with Red Center Marker, unique OTT stripes and also a unique steering box.

If we take it a step further with respect to the 2020 R with the HEP option then you are also looking at special Blue badging, unique colored seats and stitching, Wimbledon White paint and Guardsman Blue OTT/side stripes and with Ford only launching this package sometime in late December you can bet that the FRAP will only be building a limited number of these R models and possibly even less now with the COVID-19 virus which adds to this scenario.

There may be some 2020 R's already sitting on Ford lots but with the FRAP shutting down production last November and just resuming production in early March there will not be much to choose from and best expect to pay an ADM if you do finally find one.

If Ford ever has a shortage of carbon fiber wheels , I would hope Ford would put aluminum wheels on the GT350 R and ship the carbon fiber wheels to the dealer when the carbon fiber wheels become available. I as a customer would not mind paying for a set of aluminum wheels to keep the production of the GT350 R on schedule.

i was able to get in contact with the dealer/sales person at walker ford that got the special allotment for joe raiti's. long story short they did a ton of back and forth with ford corporate and jim owens got involved. they titled the allotment as VIP because of joe's youtube channel and his endorsing of the ford brand/vehicles. i have a youtube where i talk about ford but im not even remotely on that level. joe got back to me as well, recommended i look elsewhere and wished me luck.

i spoke to the GM at my dealer and he said he will attempt to push for one but in the 26 years hes been there only once has that worked, so much for all those presidents awards. being in the northern part of the country the dealers here are handicapped with their mustang sales compared to southern states. they will do a nationwide search for me but he recommended i reach out to other dealers.

i have some phone calls out to the big dealers in the area to see if they have an allotment but some of them are completely closed and with the factory shut down, who knows how many more they will build before they switch to 2021 production.

There won't be any 2021 production for the GT350R!

I had a difficult time in early February in trying to find a dealer to order one. I was planing to buy out of state to avoid the markup locally and just have the car shipped, but no one had any allocations at the time and said they would get back to me if they got one. I must have hit up 15 dealers out of state and got nothing. Just for the heck of it, I hit up a couple local dealers in Los Angeles just to see if they could even order one. They got back to me and said they could, but both dealers were charging a 5K markup above MSRP. It took several back and forth negotiations to get one of the dealers to even come down from the markup...not a fun process. When I eventually told them I was walking and they had my number if anything changes, they finally agreed to my offer. If you really want to order one, I would just hit up every big dealer you can. Good luck!

It looks like by sheer luck I may have found my car already built. The dealer is selling it at MSRP and it’s the exact spec I want. Could someone please give me a list or take a picture of all the stuff the car is supposed to have from the dealer all the paperwork and documents and book thank you.
