Where's Jack Bauer when you need him?
So, Monday night took possession of our 2016 GT Vert PP/manual all the bells except Recaros and active cruise/auto wipe. Oxford White, black top, and black upgraded interior with silver (or light grey) stitching. She's a Beauty.
Dealer complied - and then some - with my request to NOT wash the car as it would soon visit a detailer for prep, front film, and sealant. And then some means... they did not remove all the external protective plastic (no big deal came right off), but they didn't bother to remove any internal plastic coverings. Not the end of the world, but a bit annoying. What part of outside don't (only) was not understood?!
She's still a beaut.
Scored some luck and got a slot at Steeda Pompano, FL next Am (Tuesday) for Triax-trio, their axle back, and figured while it was there let them remove the sound tube and clutch assist spring. Pre-bought parts as part of Black Friday (actually prior Tuesday) deal.
Now what I did not know - and what Steeda may not have known - is that it was unclear if their axle back would fit a vert. I was patient 0 - and did not survive - their axle back does NOT fit. but now they know why. So, I was offered a deal on a Magnaflow Street Series cat back. OK - fine. Oops - Magnaflow screwed up packaging - now Magnaflow knew the vert was different than the the coupe - but messed up boxing - so the mechanic got a lot of practice taking off and putting back on the stock exhaust.
And, in part, because of the pre-occupation with musical exhausts - forgot to take off the clutch assist spring. The funny thing is that the wife thought she felt a difference in the clutch - ahh the power of mind over matter. The sound tube got removed.
So...looks like Magnaflow Street Series install next week.
Oh- how could I forget. So...while on the lift looking at exhaust fitment, the mechanic noticed grease where it should not be. Long story short...the inboard boot closest to the diff on the passenger side half shaft must have a tear (they could not find it and the clamps were tight). Into the dealership by 5:00PM.
We possessed the car 20 hours.
No word on part availability - dealership surmised Ford would replace the whole half shaft and not just the boot. Any bets on that sub assembly being overnight available?
Couple of other things in chatting with Rodney at Steeda (great patient guy - oh and I met Dave - also nice guy) - hey I've dealt with Steeda over 15 years - great organization.
So, it kind of makes sense that the rear suspension would be different on a vert, but why and why around the rear drive assembly?
We talked about wings - BTW - the Steeda functional pedestal street wing (I saw one painted gloss black on a red with black striped 2016 GT coupe) looks great. Not for my vert due to visibility. And they do plan to make a coupe and vert wing available off their SEMA car. But anyway, was told even the vert trunk is slightly different (besides the third brake light LED) - which I guess could also make sense - but may be a reason why many wings are not for verts...but then some (claim) to be. Hmmm...how?
My wife feels like a baby whose candy has been take away.
