Hi all.

Iv just purchased a brand new 2022 mustang Mach 1 ,6 speed manual , right hand drive.

There is 216km on the car now and I am hearing a very light grinding sound at the gear knob, in 1st gear and slightly louder in 2nd gear. I only hear the grinding sound after 40-50km/h and only in 1st and 2nd. All other gears are silent during acceleration.

while i am hearing the grinding sound, if I push the gear knob toward the passenger side (left) the grinding sound gets louder, if I push the gear knob towards driver side (Right) sound disappears.

would Any one know if this is serious. Ford dealer here in South Africa don’t seem to have much experience in Manual transmissions , only 15 manuals arrived in South Africa. They recommended me to drive the car up to 2000km And if the sound is still there I should bring it back. Master mechanic said It dosnt sound like anything serious, but iv never driven a manual car of any kind that dose this when it is new.

Has anyone els ever has this issue and managed to resolve it ?

thanks.

I guess I could admit having the same problem (and AFAIK @Esset having it as well), calling the emitted sound "grinding" for a lack of better word (in my English).

The other aspects you mentioned are very similar too - it is only observed in the 2nd gear (might be heard in the 1st, or in the 3rd, if you really try, but only if you are looking for it), and gets louder or quieter when pushing the stick to side.

What you did not mention and I can add, the "grinding" was there from the day one, I noticed it right away when driving the car from the dealer. It did not change after ~1000 km. It possibly needs the trans to warm up (loosen a bit) to manifest, so you would not hear it right from the start, but once there, it would not change or go away.

I have an LHD car, so the description would be reversed (gets louder when pushing the stick to the driver, and quieter when pushing to the passenger), but from the trans perspective the same.

Unfortunately I do not have my car since I originally noticed the problem, but when I get my car back, I plan on investigating it more, joining forces with @Esset :).

There are two other threads (I know of) about the strange trans noise:
https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/strange-noise-from-transmission.164384/
https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/knocking-noise-in-tremec.166532/

The first one I revived even though the vid from the OP was no longer accessible so I could not really compare it with mine.
