All,
I have a 2022 Mach 1 with around 2200 miles on it. It is an auto car with the track handling package. It's about 10 months old from it's purchase date. It's been making a noise from what sounds like the passenger front side of the car, where the AC compressor is.
The sound is a distinct humming that gets pretty noticeable over 3500 RPM and gets louder as the RPM climbs and then the volume stays steady. It doesn't matter if the AC is on or off. It's very consistent, every time I pull out onto a highway I can make the sound. I called the Ford dealer I do the most business with and they said not to bring it in until there's an obvious failure. I am familiar with the 10 speeds whine at lower vehicle speeds and it's definitely not that nor does it seem like something from the engine itself.
Last weekend, I was driving the car in sport mode and as it was making its downshift for a traffic intersection, there was an awful grinding sound coming from the engine bay. I was able to reproduce the sound a few times by downshifting with the paddles. Aside from the sounds, the car drove fine. It was at operating temp. I have a 2020 GT with the ten speed as a commuter car and it doesn't make any sounds like this.
The belts feel tight and the ribbing looks aligned for both belts. There is spots of surface rust around the AC pulley, which is disappointing but I don't know if Ford would say that's my problem and help me out.
Do you guys have any advice? I could just replace the belts, even out of pocket but I don't know if that will fix my problem. Also, getting a dealer to make a warranty call without an obvious failure can be a huge waste of time. I'm just worried by the time something does fail it might damage something else much more expensive in its blast radius.
