folks part of the test is to test these in "stock" configuration, because that is how 99% of folks use these cars. the M1 HP is the best S550 Coyote Track car made. for the cost it should be close!
Best S550 coyote track car?
looking like maybe best s550 track car short of the gt500

Glad the Mach 1 performed so well. Hard for me to believe it outperforms a GT350R. In fact I don't, but it's obvious the Mach 1 is a performer. I'd drive one any day of the week! My local dealer has a used iconic HP car on the lot and it looks sweet with the wheels, lowered stance, and the matte black stripe on the hood.
It's because of a few things:

-Tire compounds have continued to develop. Even compared to just 5 years ago. (this is probably reason #1)
-Rev matching allows for more precise and smoother shifts/transitions.
-Built in camber adjustment for the Mach 1. (this is probably reason #2)

And 0.4seconds on a track as long as VIR is nothing. I'd say all things considered... if you could put the GT350R with similar tires and camber settings, it'd go faster too.

2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 at Lightning Lap 2022
The perfect distillation of years of Mustang development.

Lap Time: 2:51.4

Class: LL2 | Base: $60,245 | As Tested: $60,740
Power and Weight: 480 hp • 3811 lb • 7.9 lb/hp
Tires: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, F: 305/30ZR-19 (98Y) R: 315/30ZR-19 (100Y)

The Ford Mustang Mach 1 didn't happen overnight. It's the culmination of years of development to the sixth-gen Stang bundled into a single package. The 2019 Shelby GT350R donates its camber plates. With the front wheels canted like the head of a curious dog, the Mach 1 enjoys precise turn-in and averages a 1.13-g ride through Turn 1.

The 480-hp 5.0-liter V-8 comes from the retired Mustang Bullitt. It's down 46 ponies to the GT350R, and that deficit shows up on long straights. Leading into the Climbing Esses, the Mach 1 is 3.4 mph slower than the GT350R, but aerodynamic and chassis bits from the Shelby keep the Mach 1 pressed into the tarmac, allowing liberal use of the accelerator. By the end of that treacherous combination, the Mach 1 is only 0.1 second behind its more powerful predecessor.

The Tremec six-speed manual is also a GT350R part, and engineers have added the ability to keep the accelerator floored during shifts. Enthusiasts might scoff at the rev-matching software (which can be turned off), but VIR is so demanding that having just a bit less to do and more foot on the brake pedal makes it a welcome feature.

The Mach 1 proved to be durable too. We tortured the Mustang over five consecutive laps to see whether its rear end would overheat like the Mustang GT Performance Pack Level 2's from a few years back. The Mach 1 never broke a sweat thanks to rear-differential, transmission, and engine oil coolers from the GT350R.

This cornucopia of Mustang parts seems to be the perfect combo. The Mach 1's 2:51.4 time is 0.4 second quicker than the GT350R's. Plus, that time is good enough to make the Mach 1 the new king of LL2, the mostly affordable sub-$65K class. We're guessing that record will stand for at least as long as it took to create the Mach 1.

The automatic version would've made time in the straights.

Lol...G350 owners are so triggered by this! I see this at my own Mustang club frequently too. The 350 owners are worse than the rivalry you see with a Camaro guy. You paid too much, it's not a Shelby...parts bin (with Shelby parts that are fine on the Shelby though) blah blah blah. I just chuckle about it. Love how some here are like we don't know what different track conditions would do or this or that. Yeah...the M1 HP might have done better too on that same day with that driver. If you have to say nerf the M1 by turning off rev match or add rev match to the 350, then you are saying the M1 is the more capable car in stock configuration. I acknowledge that it was a small difference-I don't hate on the 350-great car. What this does say is that the M1 HP is every bit the car on the track that the 350R was...the auto might be even more so.

I can't get my head around the idea of a track car with an automatic transmission.

Yeah, they said in the video there were only 3 of 21 cars with manuals. Crazy.

21 cars competing and you don't send the fastest version of the Mach 1 to the track? I send the A-10 because I want the cars best time against the world's finest competition......not necesarily the car that's "more fun and engaging".

This isn't an A-10 flex, just a fact. I'm the first to admit that there is nothing quite like driving a manual sports cars.

I thought that same thing on the last 3 cars I have owned but do fear the door is closing soon.

maybe it was a flex to show that ford still offers a manual. or maybe ford didn't want an a10 mach 1 to run to close to the gt500 time

*that last sentence was a joke, for those that need it explained in advance*
