Hi gang

I am looking at moving up to a new 19GT50 Oxford White with black stripes. Its $10000 off sticker, Electronics package, recaro's, handling package etc. Brand new. Along with the invite to the track attack and the upgrades for the model year I think its a good deal. My only concern is I would be looking at either shipping the car from Calgary Alberta to Hamilton ON, or driving it back when picked up. Gas, food and accommodations versus the added cost to ship the car.

I was wondering how the tires would handle a 3k km drive. The car would basically get broken in on the way and driven fairly easy. Would they have much wear from such a trip?

Sorry long post

I’m on my third set of Michelin SC2. I have 7300 miles on my R. Granted, some of that is track driving but best case these are ~15K km tires on a heavy ride like the GT350R.

I think a drive mostly across Canada would be a pretty awesome experience, and “worth” more than the wear on your tires. I say do it!

Cup 2 tires wear quite well when not under load, breaking or cornering when warmed properly. If you treat them nice they repay you for 12k to 15k miles easily.

keep in mind the 2019+ 350 cup 2 compound is somewhere between super sports and R cup 2's, so the wear for street driving should be somewhere in the middle too...

I hope you are not thinking of driving it from Calgary to Hamilton this time of year. I wouldn’t even contemplate doing that until later in April, and even then it would be sketchy. Probably better, and cheaper, to ship it. Add in flight out, gas, accommodation, mileage on car, and it would be cheaper to ship. TFX International charged me $1450 CAD plus tax to ship from Winnipeg to Oshawa. Check them out.

^^^^ duh, what he said, I didn't even think about the temps, it's likely way too cold for cup 2's to be rolling around, they will crack.

can't drive on cup 2's below 46F. as a meter of fact it's dangerous to drive on any summer performance tires below 46F.

Absolutely what the guys said. The Cup2's are dangerous in cold temps and can be irreparably damaged. Have it transported and save yourself some heartbreak.

If you need to run through a little cold, you'll be fine. They're tires, not slabs of glass. But if you run into a little cold + a little wet then definitely be careful. If you expect snow, absolutely do not do it.

Highway driving is not the ideal way to complete an engine break in. A severe winter storm in April is quite common in Alberta. I had my 2017 GT350 shipped from Calgary directly into my garage in Red Deer. The dealer paid for the shipping in this case. (Not a great distance). I have a set of the base GT350 Cup 2’s on a second set of rims. I’ll be driving on my factory super sports until May most likely.

Not slabs of glass but tires designed for high speed and warm weather not sub 40 temps and personally I wouldn't risk damaging $1600+ set of tires that could send me off track if they fail.... plus he's not talking about an hour or two to get it home, it's 1800+ miles 30 ish hours with overnights for the tires to freeze.... hard pass for me.

Absolutely agree with this. I’ve seen cracked Cup 2’s on Corvettes fresh from the dealership. Here in Canada the FP Cup 2’s go for over $600 per tire. Not worth the risk. Check with the dealer where the car has been stored. Plenty of pictures on kijiji of 2019 GT350’s parked out in snow / below freezing temps. Not good for Cup 2’s.

If the drive happens it would be in May, no chance I would do it this time of year.
