He told me they are planning to use my car as a "show piece" before I get it. I don't know whether that's good or bad.
Be sure it's really a "show piece"...not a Demo. :( Check the mileage. ;)

My dealer told me today he changed my order to stock because they haven't accepted any retail orders yet. Still no VIN and nothing in COTUS. Ordered 9/15. Retail priority code 19 originally.

They are out of the government hold on the 30th. And after that they will more than likely give the "ok to buy". Hopefully, I'll hear good news on Friday! :)

I've been buying cars for 50+ years, but I need 21st Century clarification.

The rationale behind producing cars for dealer stock first is because retail orders are virtually already "sold" ?

In my younger years, an auto factory simply shoehorned a customer-ordered vehicle into the assembly line process and everything continued to run smoothly.

I don't get this dealership priority over customer orders. But as I said, I'm old. That could explain why I consider this unfair to loyal Ford customers.

It would be a sad future if custom-ordering cars is replaced by, "You will buy what we build - and you'll like it or lump it." :(

P.S. My dealer refused to take a deposit on my order. What does that mean? That's a new one on me.

My dealer also did not take deposit. The owner said, "you aren't going to order something I can't sell, so if you don't want it, I will just absorb it into my stock".

I am almost wondering if dealers have a sort of "allotment" or maximum numbers of certain cars that they can order, and by getting customers to retail order, they get to "order" more cars for them to sell.

The owner said he could have Ford extend my current lease if my 18 order does not come by the end of my lease (Dec 18th) which asat this point seems most likely (ordered end of august) as I have no VIN.

That's exactly what my salesperson said.

I just get a little nervous that the car will roll off the carrier and get sold out from under me since there's no deposit to hold it.

So, I need both patience AND trust. Oh boy. ;)

My dealer said similar about retail. They haven’t gone in yet. He said coincidentally a ford rep was there yesterday and they expect to start getting retail VIN numbers next week. I literally combed COTUS yesterday to see what the dealer ordered. Manager also insists I don’t want a stock order because they are statistically more likely to have potential flaws. Whatever! :D

My salesman called me yesterday and said he will be calling me on Friday with an update. Right now they are building stock orders. I've been checking the VIN of my exact car in Baltimore and it hasn't moved. I'm hoping by next weekend (when we go down to the dealer to trade in an suv) we'll get an update and a VIN. Fingers crossed! Cause that'll be after the "government hold"

I thought you were getting a C63 or a M4 now?
I decided to stick it through with the mustang. I'm to excited to receive it.

FYI... The "OK to Buy" status has now been achieved for ALL 2018 Mustang models! Vehicles coming off the assembly line will be released for immediate shipping. Vehicles produced prior to the "OK to Buy" will be re-inspected and repaired as necessary prior to being released for shipping.
