I hope this is the correct place. I am looking to purchase a Brand new 2018. GT Premium, PP1, Active Exhaust, and Enhanced Security Package. Sticker is 45,280 dealer took off 3,045. Then 3k in rebates. Sale price of 39,235.

Is this a good deal for a 2018 or can I do better?

I know it doesn't help you really, but I just bought a leftover 2017 ecoboost premium mustang like 2 weeks ago sticker was 33k, I got 23k before tax. (24.7k OTD) so I'd reckon thats a good deal. Find out the 19's price otd, and compare it to the 18's. if you are saving a nice chunk over it, then id say go for it if its what you want. .

This was like 2k cheaper out the door than a new one. At the end of the day its the only one in a 100Mi radius that is the color and options I want.
Im literally just deciding between this and a 2019 STI. Been in a Subaru for 10+ years, so this is new territory to me. 40th Bday present to myself.

If you get the 2018 GT Mustang watch out for the engine tick that ford says is normal and will not fix it now. I got my Brand new 2017 Mustang V-6 for $22,999 sticker was $28,050 Jan,2nd,2019. I stayed away from the 2018 V-8 because of all the story on youtube of engines going bad.

That's ~13%, probably a bit of work, you could find another 1-2% on that car, or maybe an equivalent car, but that's a pretty solid deal.

Tell 'em, OK, that price plus free oil changes for the 3/36 duration :D

Is this now not an issue with the 19's?

It's been retroactively defined as a known characteristic of all Coyote engines from 2011+, by Ford. They replaced some engines and a lot of parts, but looks like they're done with that.

Personally, I think that's a hell of a deal. You might be able to wiggle a little more out of them, but I'd jump on that. I ordered my 2016 - GT Premium, Performance Package (there was no PP1/PP2), Enhanced Security Package (which I think is a no-brainer, other than the shitty locking lugs), Navigation, and Premier Trim. I paid about $38500 out the door (including dealer fees and taxes - sales tax on cars is capped at $300 in SC), sticker was over $42k. For you to be right about where I was is pretty damn good.

As for STI vs. Mustang, it's a personal preference. I'm not a Subbie guy, but recognize that the STI is pretty cool. AWD will certainly help you in NJ, but for me, I want an American car with an American attitude. The Coyote is a pretty special engine, and while there are things that people complain about, the S550 is a GREAT platform.

Interesting, how worried should I be about that?

People's worry about it varies. Some engines present much louder than others, while some seem to have very little tick. There are a lot of theories, but not a lot of hard evidence. Some people think it's the injectors from the DI system, some a chain tensioner, others think other things.

Personally, I would buy the car and enjoy the hell out of it.

Ok, so i read a little about it. Are the engines blowing up because of it or is it just an annoying sound?
I would just not want to be replacing an engine or parts on my dime down the road.

Maybe just turn the radio louder ;)

Seems to be just an annoying sound. When it first started popping up, people were taking the cars to dealers and Ford was authorizing engine replacements. I don't remember anything about an engine blowing that could be traced to the BBQ tick.

Regardless, with the amount of tech on these cars, it's not a bad idea to buy an extended warranty. Not doing so is the only regret I have about my purchase. That's not to say my car is not reliable or I'm worried about anything, but earlier models had issues with the HVAC system. Mine has had the condenser, compressor, and evaporator replaced, as well as the blower unit and HVAC controller module, plus a driveshaft and most of the Sync system. Again, mine is a 2016, and these issues seem to have been worked out over the past couple years. The HVAC issues were remedied with an updated set of components, and I haven't heard of any evap replacements for 2017+ cars.

The Sync issues were related to an early Sync 3 software bug in the Navigation system. Ford couldn't fix it with parts, but an update to the OS fixed the issue about two years ago.

I have owned a Nissan Sentra spec v where there was a known issue that the pre cat got sucked into the engine and caused oil consumption. I swapped out the header for a catless and never had a problem, but its stuff like that, that i worry about.

Yeah, there are all kinds of known issues with every car. As they get more and more high tech, there are more things to go wrong. Most of the kinks have been worked out by now, but there will always be little issues - body panel alignment isn't great, there's a lot of driveline slack with the MT-82 and Torsen, the shifter isn't THAT great. The important things, in my mind, are replacing the trans and gear oil with better fluids (I used BG from Optimum Mustang) and using a quality fuel and oil in the engine.
