This is a new issue. Push the clutch in and hit the starter button, then all dash lights come on as normal, but zero starter crank. So far, it happens intermittently, and I've been able to get the car going after between 2 and 10 button pushes. I changed out the clutch pedal position switch, so that's not the issue. I'm also hearing an electrical whining on the stereo that follows the engine revs, which has never happened before either. Don't know if that's related but it started in the last couple of weeks also. I'm just waiting to be stranded somewhere. I work 45 miles from home, that would suck.

Thanks for checking this out.

Check the starter relay fuse under the hood, this happened to me 40 amp fuse was faulty.

Thanks, I'll check it tonight. The car didn't answer the bell this morning. Hit the button too many times and the "Cranking time exceeded" warning came on.

Fuse could be an issue as stated earlier, but I'm also thinking to check the ground on the engine. If you're hearing feedback through the speakers it could be a grounding issue.

  • Replaced the Clutch switch blindly, swing and a miss.
  • Checked the battery, it was 12.8V but had some corrosion on the neg terminal. I was hopeful, but that's a no.
  • There is a solenoid click so I figured the fuse and relay were good, but checked them anyway, not the solution.
  • So under the car I went.
    • Bridged the solenoid and power wire to see if I could get the starter to move, no.
    • Removed the starter then bench tested, it doesn't budge.
  • Looked online and locally there's only remanufactured at the parts stores or $500 from Ford, so I went to Rock Auto and place my first order with them to save $150 on a Motorcraft part.
    • Assuming I'm good once it gets here tomorrow, but it's never over til the road test.
I'm 61, getting too old for this shit... But I'm not paying the shysters at the local Ford shop and extra 5 bills to do this job.
