2016 GT350 P0161 Code

Hello everyone,

I've been battling this dang code for a while now and cannot figure out the issue...

I have replaced both fuse 40 and 42, replaced the O2 sensor with a brand-new OEM one and I visibly cannot see any damage to the wire harness. This is the only code I have, and all of my other banks and sensors are fine. I installed spacers a while ago because of cat deletes but I'm assuming it was throwing the code before I put them on, but reading online these should have no correlation to the code.

Anybody have any suggestions or have encountered this issue before?

Have you monitored the sensor PIDs (voltage) to ensure the new one isnt damaged or defective? You can do this using ForSCAN.

Have you monitored the sensor PIDs (voltage) to ensure the new one isnt damaged or defective? You can do this using ForSCAN.

The sensor that is throwing the code has a voltage of 1.56-1.6 steadily while all others are at 0.9 or below. This is a brand-new sensor, there's a chance that it could be DOA? but the other sensor was still popping the code, but I didn't get the voltage on that one.

That voltage is too high and should be less than 1.0V. Can you swap sensors between sides and see if the DTC follows the sensor? If it follows it to the opposite side, then you know it a bad sensor. If it stays same side, then check wiring etc.

Is it an aftermarket sensor? Probably best to use OEM parts...

They're ford OEM sensors,

I'll try and swap the sensors over and see if the code follows it, but I'm honestly thinking it's a bad ground... or something in general with the wiring, which I wasn't hoping for.

Do you know the history of the car ? Just wondering if it was ever run in cold temperatures where they might have went through a brine (road spray) . If yes that shit is a slow (green) death for exposed wiring harnesses.

It's a California / Arizona car so I'm not entirely sure on that. I've owned the car for the last 12k miles with no issues, I hadn't noticed the code at first because I had O2 Deficiency codes (I put cat deletes on) and I figured spacers would fix the problem (they did). I started wondering why my CEL was still on and I did a scan only to reveal the O2 heater circuit code.

This code is only for Bank 2 sensor 2, I inspected the wiring under the car and there is no fraying of heat wrap or anything. It's possible its shorted somewhere and I can't see it.

Upon doing what @MiamiGT350 said to do..

The code traveled with the sensor to bank 1 sensor 2. Ford must of gave me a sensor that was already dead, same voltage also transferred. Im going to to back to ford and get another one and see if that fixes the problem.

I wouldn't worry about the "green" death then lol

For anyone needing to know,

It was the sensor that was bad, I took it out and warrantied it and upon further inspection it was oddly bent, I replaced it, and all is good now!
