That early? I dunno. Wasn't there rumors that the 2015 might debut at NY show in April? And then deliveries same month?

I hope it ends up being that early though. I wanna see these cars out on the road asap since I can't make it to NY for the reveal (if its revealed there).

While the 3 year lead time for the Camaro revival killed some of the joy for many, which is what I think OP is getting at, we really have only seen a very rough unfinished first quarter of the car and not one without some controversy.

There's still a lot for them to show and a lot of questions so I don't expect Ford to all of a sudden just go into hiding. All in all, I'm glad we saw it.

How will it affect 2014 sales? I'm not sure it does. It definitely gives people plenty of time to buy the last of the s197s if they were really disgusted with what they saw. I have a feeling that the majority of people didn't react that way. On the other hand, more news and more hype about the 15 can't help.
I think they had little choice but to show something. With sales of the 14 going down the tubes, they must realize many will be put off by the 15 styling and buy a 14. If they wait for 14 production to stop and everyone hates the 15, Ford would loose on both ends.

That's crazy talk. You think they did it on purpose to push people to buy a 14? First off they still have very many months to do that and 14 sales arent THAT bad. They are right at where they should be for the last year of the platform and head to head with Camaro.

Did I want to see it? HELL YES. Who wouldn't? We were getting teased to death with very little substance.

but I got a feeling those photos are gonna be the most revealing shots for weeks if not months.

I've got a feeling some big plans were ruined at Ford from these pics.

It wil be interesting to see how/when/where/what we see in the next set. Maybe they even cover up the wheels this time to send a message

2 questions for you guys...

1. Did you want to see it "revealed" this early?

Might seem like a stupid question but I dont think any of us, when Jarstang said they were going to show the face of the 2015 that it was going to be the ENTIRE front. Did you want a slower tease? We do have many more months to go before it's available.

2. Where does Ford go from here?

Some people probably got fired or maybe they just shrugged and said what can you do. I'm sure there were planned events and some planned spy photo teasing by Ford. Do you think they show more or less now that the cover is blown? How does it affect 2014 sales?
1. I personally wouldn't want to see the whole car revealed this early. I think now is a great time to see the front end revealed. I'd say by November/December it'd be nice to see a far less camouflaged rear-end, but one that is still covered. That should be enough for the artists to play with renders while keeping us interested, but still not giving the whole car away.

I was around heavily on the FT86Club forums while the GT-86/FR-S/BRZ was slowly being tested and we saw more and more. A slow reveal works so long as something new pops up right as the previous leak is wearing off. Even just seeing a lightly camo'd version was enough for most of us back then.

For the FT86, we started off with shots of this test mule to slowly having more camo removed to the point where we had the production test models running around with just the swirly design covers. If done similarly, I think most people interested in the 6th gen will be just fine.

I feel like the heavily camo'd cars we're seeing right now are comparable to the test mule of the FT86, and with the front end revealed we're getting closer to seeing something along the lines of the production FT86 swirly cars.

2. Honestly, Ford should keep doing what's it's doing. Leaks are bound to harm, no harm in crying over split milk. It's only a matter of time until someone leaks the full car, there's just no way around it nowadays. I doubt anyone got fired over this, unless a Ford employee is the one who took the shots and leaked them while out on the job.

It really shouldn't affect the 2014 sales either. Those who want the 2014 aren't going to be as interested in the new Mustang. The styling and mechanical bits (possible engines, suspension, dimensions) seem to be taking different directions and may not able to the exact same consumers.

Not sure if there's any facts behind this rumor, but recently on other sites I've been reading that it's very likely we'll see a concept Mustang at the Detroit Auto Show in January, then the production version debut at New York in April.

That seems to sound similar to what they did the with S197 Concept. If that actually holds true, I could see them taking orders starting after the production's debut, with the first deliveries being 4-8 weeks after (so June-ish).

Plus a June release would coincide with the rumors of the 6th generation getting a 2014.5 release.
