Why do you quote me and then pontificate on automobile production?? I know how the process works. Direct your theories towards the unenlightened who think customer orders placed this summer won't take delivery until November.
Calm down man, maybe I misunderstood what you were saying. -1 for using the word pontificate too......

No hard feelings. I just get frustrated by a few on here who make claims as gospel truth when they have no idea what they're talking about. And the "my dealer said this..." when that dealer is equally clueless. I pulled pontificate out of my @+% so I'll take a -1 hit.;)

Retail orders won't start showing up for a month or two after stock orders. I ordered a '13 in Dec 2011, they put it in as retail, almost 3 months went by without it getting a VIN so the dealer entered a second identical order as stock. That order got pulled within a week, got built, dilivered, and picked it up mid March... The original retail order didn't end up coming in until 8 weeks later.

The dealer I ordered my '15 from does high volume Mustang sales and they automatically put it in as a stock order so it'll come in faster. Unfortunately the order was placed 2 days before the scheduling delay so probably won't see it till Nov now anyway. It was part of his stock allocation that was supposed to get pulled on 7/17

I'm a little disappointed that my Fiancée's Comp Orange PP GT that was ordered on 5/22 and is still without VIN or scheduling. At this rate I'm probably going to tell her to wait until the spring. Getting it going into the Maryland winter isn't worth it.

Think about it this way, all of those stock orders will sit @ Ford for a month or so during QC while any kinks or production issues are worked out.

Once those models are deemed OK to ship, then they resume production on custom 'retail' orders.

Ford doesn't want us, the most vocal of vocal buyers, to get their custom ordered cars and start hitting the forums saying this and that is wrong.

I agree it sucks, I'm in the same boat as I ordered retail, but a few weeks or even a month for the car to get here later is OK with me...as I don't have a choice.
This is exactly correct most dealers also knew this at least we did. We told customers, giving them a choice take a risk and have your car first or have a custom ordered car with your name on it. Ford needs to get through the initial run and works out the kinks.

Props to you for giving customers this option as most of us don't even know the difference!

Not to add disappointment but I have been through this now on several new car launches when pre-ordering for production--most recently 2012 Focus and 2013 Escape which were both brand new chassis. Both these cars sat in holding lots and were delayed by a few months as then other orders started coming into dealerships that were built later. Really upset me of course; my car was sitting and unaccessible at the rear of the holding lot until they got the flow of car shipping under control. The only car I had built at the start of production and actually got shipped out right away was my 2010 Fusion AWD Sport, but that was more of a facelift for 2010 than a brand new chassis.

Anyways, I have been reading the order threads for the past few months and I predicted where this would go getting Mustang in production and shipped. While I am interested in the car, I have not ordered yet for two reasons. One I would like to drive both the EB and GT if possible. Two I cannot go through the agonizing process again of getting my hopes up to keep getting disappointed such as some of you already are. I expected this car to be delayed for the various quality and supplier issues already noted here. I also knew to take the original ship/build dates with a grain of salt, much like many dealers here have predicted. They have seen it happen enough, that's why many don't like to be pinned down by a customer with a ship date as it just leads to disappointment in the end and good luck getting any info or answers from Ford.

To continue to set expectations, and sorry if this has already been posted, a respected member on blueoval forums (ice-capades) which is an inventory manager for a large Ford dealership posted this:

FYI... Per today's "Commodity & Constraints Letter" regarding vehicle scheduling for this Thursday, July 24th... 2015 Mustang will not resume scheduling until Thursday, September 11th!
So anyone without a VIN can expect to see a delay in movement of getting that VIN until September. This does not surprise me at all. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I would rather know than not if I was in the position of waiting for an arbitrary date on VIN assignment.

If I were to say "My car won't be here till November" I'm not lying (have no idea<->equally clueless), because I can only go on the information provided to me from the people I'm giving $$$ to.

Why do you say the Dealer is equally clueless?

I ordered May 20th, as of today still no Vin# Yada-Yada-Yada.

Here is a communication (July 8th) from the dealership I ordered from, I asked why others were getting Vin#s + I provided him a few, when I ordered before them:

I sent this to our Ford Rep. After more digging, he found that they have started scheduling the LE's very recently for other regions and these vins look to be accurate. All I can do at this point is assure you that he has told me that your Mustang is #1 priority in our region. Additionally, he said that you could expect your vehicle to arrive sometime in November...but please keep in mind with factory builds delivery dates can vary depending on factory delays. I will most certainly keep you up to date as I receive more information.

Thank you,

I think some of this Dealer is gospel stuff is coming from dealers who may not be fully realizing what the internet has brought to us. In Dearborn our primary business is Ford employees we can not getting away with flat lying to a customer. If we do not know information about a product or service we offer there are too many places they can go to find the answer on there own. To get caught in a lie or to not go through the due deligince to find an answer could mean losing a sale. I think with this new Mustang launch and so much information being gathered on this site and across the internet we are seeing lots of dealers caught up in lies or atleast showing a lack of knowledge on new vehicles.

I spoke with my dealer today (Ford in Pembroke Pines FL) since I never received my VIN number or any detail on the production date of my order. I ordered on 6/2/14 with a $1000 deposit. The guy told me today no dealers will be getting any 2015 Mustangs until last week in October or first week in November since there are still too many 2014 Mustangs that have not yet sold! He said my order was never processed and I still don't have a VIN. I can't believe I have to wait until November now to get my new car.

I ordered 2015 Mustang GT Premium - yellow with 3.73 gears - manual.
Why in the World did you give Plantation Ford a $1000 Deposit to order a 2015 Mustang to begin with? Is there shortage of Ford Dealerships near you? How about AutoNation Ford, Sawgrass Ford, Pompano Ford, Wayne Akers Ford, Mullinex Ford, etc. I personally would have left no more then either $250 or a max of $500 Deposit. They know damn well, if you decided (not) to purchase this Mustang, they would have 10 Buyers lined up to pay probably full MRSP. $1000, whats that a Certificate of Deposit, "CD"? How much interest does it yield? LMAO

I also put down $1000 (June 20). Assuming it takes six months for delivery, at current CD rates, you'd be missing out on a grand total of $5 in interest. Whoopty Doo.

The dealer asked for $1000. It doesn't matter to me; I would have given them $5000. Whether I pay now or in December when I (presumably) take delivery really makes no difference.

I understand your point but for me, personally, I`m not letting anyone hold a $1000 for 6 Months in exchange for a Purchase & Sale Agreement even if yielded a nickel. If I changed my mind in 6 months and decided to buy a BMW X1 Convertible instead, I`m not about to argue to get my $1000 deposit back.

not as simple as you think .

While this is a hot item, out of those 10 people you think would line up to buy it , I bet 9 out of 10 people would not want THAT particular vehicle ( color equipment, transmission). So it is important to a dealer to have a solid commitment from a customer to order a vehicle.

Lets say someone like (myself) Special Orders say a 2015 Mustang Convertible in "Base" 3.7 V6 Trim with only adding say Automatic Transmission and the Optional Spare Tire. Ordering the Convertible in "Race Red" with the Standard Black Cloth Interior and the Standard Black Fabric Cloth Convertible Top, thats it, period! MSRP of $31,315 (delivered price). How long do you thing a 2015 Mustang Convertible ordered that way with a low MSRP of only 31K will stay on the lot? You tell me?
