UPDATE FROM THE GENEVA AUTO SHOW: 2015 Mustang is one of three finalists

PRESS RELEASE

"THE ROAD TO THE WORLD CAR" JOURNEY CONTINUES... TOP THREE IN THE WORLD FINALISTS ANNOUNCED IN GENEVA

The Road to the World Car journey continues with today's announcement of the Top Three in the World finalists in five award categories at the Geneva International Motor Show.

This announcement continues the countdown for the 2015 World Car Awards (the WCAs) winners' press conference hosted by the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), Bridgestone Corporation and Autoneum on Thursday, April 2, 2015. Winners of the 2015 World Car of the Year, World Luxury Car, World Performance Car, World Green Car and World Car Design of the Year will all be declared at this time.

A jury of 75 distinguished international automotive journalists selected the following "Top Three in the World" finalists by secret ballot based on their experience with each candidate as part of their professional work. The international accounting firm KPMG tabulated the jurors' ballots.

The Top Three in the World finalists in the 5 award categories are as follows:

2015 World Car of the Year:
Ford Mustang
Mercedes-Benz C-Class
Volkswagen Passat

2015 World Luxury Car:
BMW i8
Mercedes-Benz S Coupe
Range Rover Autobiography Black LWB

2015 World Performance Car:
BMW M4 Coupe/M3 Sedan
Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe
Mercedes-Benz AMG GT

2015 World Green Car:
BMW i8
Mercedes-Benz S 500 Plug-In Hybrid
Volkswagen Golf GTE

2015 World Car Design of the Year:
Citroën C4 Cactus
Mercedes-Benz C-Class
Volvo XC90

The Road to the World Car began in Paris on October 2, followed by a stop in Los Angeles for a test-drive of the North American contenders in November, and continues with the finalists' announcement today at the Geneva International Auto Show. The journey ends at the New York International Auto Show on Thursday, April 2nd, 2015 when all winners are declared.

The Global Trends Report, co-presented by Prime Research and Autoneum, will be revealed just before the winners' press conference on the same day in New York. Autoneum CEO Martin Hirzel said, "Smart efficiency is the most important trend in the automobile industry. With Autoneum's lightweight and multifunctional products for acoustic and heat management in vehicles, our smart innovations are making an important contribution to the future of the automobile."

About World Car Awards

The World Car Awards (WCA) are more than just an awards program. The WCA's judging panel is made up of 75 prominent automotive journalists from around the world that form a global community of experts. The jurors ensure the integrity and credibility of the awards but also serve as an important resource for the industry with a focus on excellence and innovation on a global scale.

The 2015 Ford Mustang is one of 10 finalists for the 2015 World Car Awards: Overall World Car of the Year.

The judging is performed by 75 automotive journalists and each candidate for the award must be new and available for sale on at least two continents during the time period between January 1, 2014 and May 31, 2015.

Three finalists for each category will be named at the Geneva Auto Show next month and the winners will then be revealed at the New York International Auto Show in April.

Last year's Overall World Car of the Year winner went to the Audi A3.

Seriously? BMW 2-series active tourer is on the list? A Front Wheel Drive MPV from BMW that costs far too much and isn't that good to drive is up there with the Nissan Qashqai, Ford Mustang and Citroen C4 Cactus?

So, how much do you think BMW spent on "gentle persuasion" this time?

Wow! This means that the Mustang could be in the vaunted company of cars like the Nissan Leaf! Maybe we should pass on this one... :)

To be fair, BMW makes one hell of a car... the performance and handling is unmatched in my opinion. but it comes with a cost...

I currently own a 2013 BMW 528i M-Sport and have owned BMW's in the past. They make solid cars that are sporty and handle good but they aren't unmatched. If you thought the early MT82's had transmission issues.. :frusty:
