Got a 2015 GT performance package 40,000 mi on it and I hear a clunk noise when engaging the gear to D or S. Also happens when switching to R - all at idle.
Now where this throws me off is that it also happens when downshifting on the lower gear 3 to 2 and 2 to 1 mostly. Does NOT happen when upshifting.
It also happens in one more instance, when staying in the same gear and releasing the throttle after pushing fairly on it.

I attached a video for reference. This has been happening for a few months and now is getting louder.
It's coming from the rear end of the car. From the few videos and posts I've seen

around forums, it sounded like a rear axle nuts or bearings, or differential bushings but when showing this video to Quicklane I'm being told it's most likely the flexplate. Loose bolts that damaged the flex plate and would need to pull the whole transmission out - THOUGHTS?

I can't get an appointment with the service department at Ford until January as all technicians are booked and still need to drive it as it's my daily ....

Sounds like a tail shaft UNI joint maybe ? Thus the delay as is goes into D or R As it takes up slack.

My experience was the tail shaft had dried out. I pulled the driveshaft and smeared some grease on the tail shaft spline. After that, no clunk.

Three individuals have seen this video and I get three different responses haha. Understandable as it can be anything in the transmission line. I was able to get an appointment in 20 days for a general diagnostic. I'm thinking of putting a camera underneath and trying to dial in what it could be. It seems that the transmission line is pretty sensitive on those. I'm surprised as I'm not going that hard on it, no tracks, no burnouts, etc. The sound is reduced while driving when going easy on the throttle / torque, but naturally no difference at idle when changing gears...

How bad is it to continue driving it? It's my daily.

First 2 comments on here are the same ??

jack the car up , and grab the tail shaft and twist it. See if there is play or movement in the uni joints.
OR
any local mechanic shop can check this in about 1 min After lifting it in on there hoist.

I've left this issue aside and did minimum driving on it. Actually bought a second vehicle as a DD. Got an appointment at Ford coming up to fix it but not sure if it's worth going to Ford for this considering the $260 diagnostic fee. So I recorded two videos of where I think this is the location it's coming from. Does this video confirm your thoughts on the tail shaft uni-joint? I'll try to find a nearby mechanic that can lift the car as you mentioned and hopefully doesn't charge me for it.
I do have the car under warranty but I don't know that they will cover the diagnostic fee so thinking of perhaps not involving the warranty company at all ...

Reporting back that the mech at Ford Crossroad said it was simply a loose wheel axle nut. They tightened it and it’s now gone.
