There IS a code-named "Falcon" project underway in North America. And it's aluminum-intensive.

So the current SHO, at a morbidly obese 4398 pounds for the base model (1000 pounds heavier than the original SHO), would or would not have any appeal for Australian buyers? And qualify that - if it were locally assembled versus imported from the USA.

And a Falcon supercar (EcoBoost V8) would sell in how many numbers in Australia and be how profitable? It would have to be based on a mainstream pedestrian Falcon, which hasn't been selling in significant numbers to continue and has been dropping in sales precipitously for years. So what is the business case for a base Falcon, locally assembled, ands what is the business case for a supercar - locally assembled? There's none.

And, setting aside the overall size of the proposed car or whether it's AWD or RWD, what would be the opinion of an imported Falcon from the USA? We're led to believe that it had darned well better be locally assembled or not at all.

1) There's a lot you're not aware of about the Australian market..
2) I wasn't talking about the Australian market.

If there was we mere mortals wouldn't know about it.

It is a bit sad the Falcon is ending but I won't really miss it, even being a Ford guy whose family always had Fairlanes or Falcons, and that is the even sadder fact. For me, the Falcon has been boring for the last 30 years. I've had one from the early 80s, one from the early 90s and currently have one from the early 00s, and they don't inspire any passion. The XW, XY and XA, XB, XC (especially the two-doors) were cars with character! Seeing them belt around the mountain (Bathurst) was actually exciting.

It will be interesting to see what Ford (and other manufacturers) come up with in the lead up to the US 2025 EPA goal, especially considering the significant use of aluminium in the F-150. It seems Ford US still understands there is a market for fun / exciting cars. Maybe there will be a new four-door family saloon with an aluminium chassis and a 3.5L V8 hybrid in ten years?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the 2015 falcon and current Fusion share the same platform?
You're thinking of the Mondeo. Mondeo and Fusion are one and the same.

EDIT: I see you already figured that out. Don't mind me.... :headbonk:

So the Mustang is replacing the Falcon in V8 Supercar and the Mondeo/Fusion is replacing the Falcon on the street for a 4-door sedan?

Man that XR8 is badass....

Looks nice enough..........seems to have taken a few Taurus cues in the grille.

Sad that this is, for now at least, the last RWD Ford saloon :(
