I was one of those unfortunate people who bought their car from a dealer who couldn't be bothered to install the front splitter properly. Upon calling them, they suggested I better have evidence it was them. I removed the splitter that disintegrated at highway speeds and noticed the missing screws. I drove around without it, but started to hear a rattle on low speed turns. Took it to another dealer to get the new splitter installed and an early oil change. I bought all of this ahead of time (splitter, oil, filter) as I wasn't banking on them being on-hand.

It was bad enough that even with an official Ford complaint (taken from a rep here on the forum) that the original dealer wouldn't call me back, offer to replace the splitter at their cost, etc and that I had to purchase my own replacement. The amazing thing is that when the splitter ate highway, it also destroyed its plastic belly pan (which I didn't even know existed) raising the cost substantially.

Has anyone got me beat? I am guessing any cars which had the oil recall failure happen win, doubly so if they caught fire.

Dude, reading your post I am getting goosebumps. If this happened to me, I would beat the shit out of someone (verbally). You are way too cool/calm about it.

It is absolutely unacceptable.

Whether it was a bad dealer install or not, your splitter shouldn't have flown off on the highway (or wherever it happened.) You should absolutely demand a warranty fix.

I had a similar situation. I drove it fast one day and noticed the front end of the splitter pulled down off the front end and was subsequently scraped. I brought it to the dealer and demanded it be replaced. They said it would not be covered under warranty because it was not a defective part. I insisted that it was missing 4 screws because it was not installed properly. They took it in the back, reinstalled the missing screws, and ordered a new splitter. The service manager mentioned that he would sell the old splitter online, so I offered to split the cost if I could keep the old one.

The original splitter is still on the car and the new one sits in the box for future use. The best I can figure is that dealer cost is about $300 and my out the door portion was $150.

I would not let your situation stand.
