Here’s how the conversation would go with a dealer if you did a third party (Lund etc) tune and then blew your engine:

You: I blew my engine
Dealer: you had an aftermarket tune
You: ok
Dealer: that’s why you blew the engine, and here is our proof
You: Magnuson-Moss!!!!!!!
Dealer: lol

Good luck with that. Basic rule of thumb is if you do aftermarket stuff, whatever system or component you are modifying will lose its warranty coverage. Maybe not always true, but that’s an easy way to look at it.

the PowerPack 2 ( i have it, highly recommend it) has a 36/36 warranty through ford performance. If it was me, and it is, i would have the dealer where you bought the car install it, if it's a used car, then i would still use (and did use to the tune of $400) a Dealer to install it. They are going to have a much harder time expunging your Ford 60/5 warranty on the motor if they installed the tune. Reality is, it's a pretty light tune. All your going to get here is an opinion, and the dealer stories on Warranties are night and day, all depends on the dealer. My thoughts are, if you change the Oil with a quality synth at 5-6k intervals, if there was going to be a failure, it should happen at a pretty low millage, and be covered by the FP warranty. I think you could argue pretty well with the Ford Performance tune/pack, vs a other party. And for the anal people out there, i understand FP is considered a 3rd party.

So, as I understand, if you have a Ford dealer install Ford Performance parts, your factory warranty is intact. However, I was just looking at the details on the Ford Performance website and it specifically says:

"Engine, driveline and suspension concerns not caused by the use of Ford Performance or mountune parts remain eligible for warranty coverage according to the terms of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty."

How is this any different than what already exists if I were to have a third party tune etc., as even then warranty is intact if it cannot be proven that the issue was caused by it.

The reason I ask this is because I'm considering getting the Ford Performance Power Pack 2 and the main reason was due to being able to maintain my remaining warranty without issues.
The truth is no matter whether it is Ford Performance or any other company it is considered an aftermarket product.

Ford Performance happens to put a warranty on their parts which is separate from your factory warranty provided a Ford dealership does the install.

If things go badly and Ford Performance products are to blame then Ford Performance would pay the claim versus Ford OEM.

In reality, most Ford dealerships turn a blind eye to Ford Performance parts and usually lump them together especially if it is something mild. I'd imagine the Ford Performance supercharger kits might be different.

Where it gets sticky is extended warranties. Technically the Ford Performance 3/36 would REPLACE any extended warranty in regards to what parts it replaces or could affect.

They would have to be able to prove that the aftermarket parts were to blame for the failure. They would have to be able to point out that the tune etc were the cause and show the proof. If a factory part failed and caused it then they would still have to fix it under warranty.

The FRPP warranty piggybacks on your original 3/36k bumper-to-bumper warranty, but it's not the same warranty. This warranty is provided by FRPP, not FoMoCo.

The fact is, and I still don't understand why there is so much confusion... Once the PP2 is installed (by you or an ASE Cert.) the 3/36k bumper-to-bumper and the 5/60k Powertrain warranties are still in effect. They just don't cover the FRPP parts. If the FRPP parts are the cause of a failure, it becomes an issue between you and FRPP.

Disclaimer:
I installed my PP2 on my own. I'm not ASE Certified, but completely capable & competent. 4-5 months later I had a valve cover leak. My 3/36k had already expired, but my 5/60k was (still is) in effect. Valve cover leak was fixed without hesitation from Ford. GT350 CAI was extremely noticeable.

This has not been my experience.

This...I even discussed with my dealer and they explained it the exact same way. That is one reason I went with the PP2 rather than another 3rd party tune and why I had the dealer install it.
