Decided to organize the ol' trunk a little better. I used to have a trunk organizer that would slide all over the place. Got to thinking about making better use of the spare tire well and have it take over storage duties.

I removed the foam insert and replaced with some bins. Could probably do a cleaner job, but this will suffice.

Not bad. But what happens when you get a flat? You'll have to call for Ford Roadside Service instead of using the kit.

Everything that came with the car for flat tire repair is still there. Which is to say only the electric pump - which contains the goo.

But as noted, I have a plug kit; not going to ruin the tire by filling it with the goo.

This said, I have yet, in all my years of driving, to pick up a nail or screw that required immediate repair. If the tire goes boom, neither the goo or repair kit is going to be much help - so it will be roadside assistance.

I have had a similar experience. 187,000 miles in my Z, and have picked up plenty of nails and screws. I typically live with them for a month until I get tired of topping off the tires with air every couple of days, and finally break down and plug them.

The only time I needed the spare was when I was crashed my car at the track and broke the valve stem. I used the spare to drive to a tire shop, got the valve replaced, and then finished the track day with a somewhat cosmetically damaged car and a more deeply damaged ego.

At this point I've become pretty comfortable with simply the plug kit and an air compressor (knock on wood).

Oh yeah, your organization method is very nice!

Thanks. Kinda kludgy, but it works.

I've been searching a bit for a spare tire well storage system. Can't find anything. Would be nice if someone built something that was circular, molded to the well and had built in separators. Have a nice factory look. Ford should get on that. :)
