You wanted Carlos? You got Carlos.

This week on Ignition, Carlos Lago drives the first turbo, four-cylinder Mustang in three decades: the EcoBoost. Featuring 310 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque, this Mustang should easily outpace the V-6 and, with half the cylinders, it also boasts less weight over the front end than the GT. Add in a performance package and – finally – independent rear suspension, and this Mustang should prove a lot of fun. Through Motor Trend’s instrumented testing, a visit to Universal Technical Institute’s dyno, a drive on the road, and a Hot Lap, we’ll find out if the EcoBoost has what it takes.

Why are they comparing the EcoBoost to the outgoing V6? Why doesn't anybody compare the S550 V6 to the S550 EcoBoost?

Was I the only one disappointed with the lack of speaking by Randy? Every other review, he has lots to say while he's driving about how the chassis feels, steering, brakes, etc. This time he says a few words at the beginning and then nothing during most of the lap.

They probably aren't doing a comparison to the V6 because Ford isn't sending many V6 models out for testing or reviews. They're doing a comparison to what they had, the outgoing V6.

I was hoping for more input from the track driver. He always has interesting commentary, hopefully there will be another video soon.

Whats funny is they are comparing this to the outgoing V6 but not to the CURRENT S550 V6.

I mean that's apples and oranges.

For all we know, he might like the S550 V6 better.

Ford seems to be really trying to not let people compare the S550 V6 to the S550 EB.

And he makes the good point about weight for the EB. Guaranteed the aluminum doors and lid back are included in 2016. Ford shouldn't have waited on those.

Veeeeeery interesting point

although given that Ford neutered the options on the 6, the only comparison would be non-PP models

The more I think about it the more I have confidence the GT PP will beat the boss around the track...Thats a pretty impressive number around Willow in the EB. Im betting with some mods it will easily keep up with the 2013/14 GT around willow.

I know willow is a short track that wont allow you to use the entire capacity of the V8 much. Still a strong number for the EB.

I still think you could get a V6, add some slicks and other PP stuff and then run a comparison.

Or HELL, just get a base EB, get a base V6 and run them for comparisons.

This whole not being able to compare to the V6 because FORD isn't allowing it makes me think that FORD is trying to hide something.

I doubt any major material or weight change until the following refresh ('19? or whatever). The next refresh will probably be the new automatic trans, QNX infotainment upgrade, some styling cues, Dropping the V6, new editions, maybe a new engine, and Laser cannons. Major change will need a major refresh. They just dropped tons on this car, no way Ford is coughing up for aluminum panels yet

I think the EB would still lead by a small margin in a straight line given the low/midrange boost. other than that though...

They don't want the base V6 anymore, that V6 is probably going bye bye within the next 5 years. They don't want much of a fanbase that will be disappointed or anything.

The EB will still win the competition even if there was one, with the higher torque and similar torque curves (as long as the current V6 has a similar, albeit gutted, torque curve as the previous model).

It was encouraging to hear Randy Probst's comments about the body structure stiffness, although I wonder in what dimension he was able to "feel it".
