This stupid dress is driving me crazy

Totally blue and black.

Wife saw white and gold.

I think there are more things going on here than "meets the eye".

If this dress was seen in natural light or sunlight IN PERSON, I believe 99.9% of people polled would correctly name the colors of the dress. Part of the problem stems from this is a digital representation of a actual dress that was a digital representation when photographed by the camera. I can actually look at this and (for me) it will go from gold and white to blue and black if I look at the screen or tilt my device at an angle. Now there are some other things coming into play as well here. A screen is going to refract light as it passes through it. Looking at a screen from an angle is going to give you an image now with the light waves refracted or bent through them. On top of all that there is obviously a brain and color perception component going on here dealing with the brains response to color and the eyes absorption of light through the rods and cones.

Again with all that said, we are arguing about images of this dress. What colors we perceive the IMAGE to be. In reality this dress will have a color of light that it will reflect and it will be that color. What color that is appears possibly to be black and blue but again that is all going off of someone trusting what they see on the interwebz.

I will reiterate. If you or me or anyone else is standing in front of this dress in real life, in white light, ambient light or sunlight, 99.9% of people will say what color it actually is. Don't always trust what color you see being emitted by the monitor you are using. I could put someone in a pitch black room with a absolute red flower, shine nothing but absolute blue light on it and 99.9% of people would say it was a black flower. Light is light, wavelengths are wavelengths, yet perception is different. This dress will have a certain wavelength of light that it reflects. That is its "true color".
