I have just been told that Philip has been forced to close the business due to ill health.

Very unfortunate given how good his products are, but understandable in his situation.

Poor bloke, wish him all the best.

Might have to keep my current one and bend it...

Very unfortunate indeed, best made bracket on the market. Hope Phillips health situation improves.

Very sad to hear, he is a lovely man to speak with and I hope he can get over his health issues.

I have a set of his brackets with the Kingpin covers; first class product!

Very sad - a very helpful and humble man.

Best wishes to Philip and his family.

A highly regarded man seemingly providing a great service.
Is there anybody else who might provide this service ?

Unlikely - unless Philip was inclined to onsell his business to someone with similar talents, which doesn't seem to be the case.

These brackets are a master of basic engineering.

I assume that the '18s are going to be delivered with those horrid billboard type brackets again (below pic of RHD UK car seems to indicate so) - not sure what solutions will be open to new owners.

Time for me to start thinking about number plates for when my car arrives. Can anyone tell me if brackets/holders are really required. I have owned plenty of cars where the plates are mounted directly. With recapping through a good lot of this thread I have not found mention of this. I know that the front bumper is not flat so I thought plastic spacers made to the correct lengths would allow the plate to be mounted without the Ford bracket. The rear plate mounting I have no clue but someone has surely been down the road of not using brackets. I don't like the idea of double sided tape.

I am just assuming that the mounting position profiles are the same for the MY18 as previous S550's. I might have to drop over to the dealer for a chat about what they can offer.

I asked them about this the other day as i don't want my plates just screwed on to the bumper,so generally they just velcro them on as they dont like to drill any holes until you work something out.

Thanks. That sounds like a decent short term solution. It must work ok or they wouldn't do it.

My plates are affixed to my Lakin plate brackets with velcro (recessed Command Strips) by design.

They stick like shit to a blanket.
