Its simply the diameter. take these two tires off the car, both inflated same pressure and see there is a longer contact patch just by virtue of the overall bigger diameter
I believe a 26 inch tall tire versus a 28 inch tall tire with the same width measurements, the overall contact patch is bigger on the 28 inch tall tire from what I understand.

The CF GT500 wears the best track tire, michelin cup 2's with a r compound, the GT500 reat tire is taller creating a bigger foot print compared to the 1LE
Your right, GM has no real direct answer for the GT500 and the CF track package is the R. Even though the ZL1 1LE is a old competitor for the new GT500, it just may be a hard car to beat on most road course's.
.I would like to see a better run between a redeye hellcat and a GT500, the redeye should be quicker and faster the the ZL1 and that crude drag race between the 3 cars just doesnt really represent the redeye's 1/4 mile does it?
