His concern was aligning the trunk lid after removing it.

Try the boroscope - if all Else fails and you need to remove the trunk lid you can drill small holes through the hinges with a small drill bit and use that as an alignment tool when you refit the lid.

Even If you have a good boroscope you would not be able to see whether the shaft were sheared off I don't think.. the removal of the manifold is relatively easy though.

Disappointing that a tune could be so far off? Are you running the same spark plugs as with the whipple? Modern plugs are used as very sensitive knock sensors (they measure the ionic gas conductivity in between spark events). Anyhow thought maybe one of your plugs could be giving off false...

Thanks for sharing the costs and outcomes. You certainly saved a shed load and have built a serious weapon. I was looking at something milder and easier to drive on the road. I was hoping the whipple would give it more low down grunt to compliment the power it makes up top. :cheers:
