If the guy was really passionate about the track, he probably was also passionate about maintaining the car: pads, fluids. etc. In short, the car was probably batter cared for than most. His honesty about track use reinforces this.
By al means try it. The people are great, the competition is fun even when you're mid pack.
If you runs a street class, there isn't a great deal you can do to the car, and there isn't much camber available without camber plates. So you'll get a bunch of understeer.
If you get at all serious...
Oddly, this happened to me while sitting in my daily driver Fiesta ST while waiting for someone this morning. I'd shut the engine down 15 minutes earlier. Noise came from the front. I've never heard this from my GT350.
I had a 1965 fastback, four speed, front discs, rebuilt 302 with a big Holley four barrel. Sold it, partly because I just couldn't get anyone reliable to work on it..
I have a 2018 GT 350 now. Just excellent throughout.
What I was struck by was how light the '65 felt. Whatever performance...
It's hard because the oil adheres to the dipstick tube.
What I do is to check my oil only in the early AM after the car has been sitting overnight. Before I've started it. The oil level is easy to read, and it's always perfect.
They must mean the Yokohama Advan A052 and the BFG Rival (S 1.5). I've tried Rivals in the past on other cars and never liked them. People are talking about the Yokohamas but I don't know what to think.
My season is mostly FedEx Field, a few BMW Club events around DC, and probably a couple up...
Good discussion. Thanks for the replies.
I'm not concerned with the Nationals, just regional events around Washington, DC region. Sounds like I'm well covered for that.
Autocrossers...
So I was just going to go this year with RE-71Rs, 285/35-19 and 305/30-19, stock wheels.
Anyone got a better idea? I do love the RE-71R.
Thanks.
Great video. The GT500 looks great in triple back. (My GT350 is triple black so I'm biased.)
Occurs to me that it takes a really accomplished autoxer to get the most out of a car like the GT500. Maybe a Sam Strano?
Congrats on your purchase.
Coincidentally, I drove my GT350 to work this morning--something I don't do more than once a week--and came upon a new Porsche 992 at a light. I was amazed how BIG it looked. They've really grown over the years.
I'm a WDCR member and have done track events at Summit. This is a very experienced group, and they do a good job running events. They use the main circuit and Shenandoah, which is very different. I'd say yes, it's worth it.
WDCR also runs a first class autocross program at FedEx field.
