Just made my own center pull down strap out of material laying around, about 10" to start. Drilled holes around 8" apart and used the existing nuts. Might be better than my old method...
Finally breaking down and dealing with this one. Dealer wants me to let them inspect it first, and if they have any needed parts, fix it then. Otherwise, they have to order parts and schedule another appointment.

I have had this issue at times. Usually, a sharp rap of the fob will provide for better contact of the batteries and I'm good to go. Unless the batts are run down again...
Taller never helps with cornering, wider does in general. You could probably get away with 10mm wider no problem, IIRC there is a thread or 2 here that can expand on that.
You need to measure your clearances to be sure.
