think I found the source - found a couple small indents inside the trunk where the holes were drilled for the spoiler hardware, so looks like he maybe went a bit too deep on a few of the holes. For sure gonna take it to a body shop to get repaired at some point.

Previous owner was an older guy who had a full shop, worked on cars, and was selling this because he was building a couple classics from the frame up. After talking to the guy, I don't doubt he installed it correctly. I will take it to a body shop in town to have them assess.
